Kayla's Dog Grooming is an open-concept salon in Ottawa built around one straightforward belief: every dog deserves to feel safe, loved, and cared for during their visit. We don't use cages, and our team works together to give every dog love and attention from the moment they walk in the door. As our Receptionist, you'll be the first friendly face our clients and their dogs see — setting the tone for the warm, caring experience we're known for.

We're a close-knit team that supports each other, and we're looking for someone who shares our love for dogs and genuine warmth with people.

Role Overview The Receptionist is the heart of our front desk — the first voice on the phone and the first smile clients see when they walk in. This role handles bookings, check-ins and checkouts, and day-to-day client communication, while also keeping the front of the salon running smoothly: retail, tidiness, and supplies. Ideal performance looks like warm, organized, calm-under-pressure service — even on busy days — paired with genuine care for the dogs and their people.

Your energy sets the tone for every client's first impression of the salon.

Key Responsibilities

- Client Communication: Answering phones, replying to messages and emails, and greeting clients warmly — making every interaction feel personal, friendly, and professional.
- Booking & Scheduling: Managing appointment bookings, confirming and adjusting schedules, and helping keep the day organized for groomers and clients alike.
- Check-In/Checkout: Warmly greeting each dog at drop-off (with a treat, if they're allowed one!), welcoming their owner, handling payment and checkout smoothly, and making sure every visit starts and ends on a warm, positive note.
- Comfort & Reassurance: Offering a lap and gentle comfort to dogs who are scared or anxious while they wait for their appointment or for their owner to arrive — helping every dog feel safe, even outside the grooming station.
- Retail & Salon Upkeep:



Keeping the retail area stocked and tidy, restocking supplies as needed, sweeping up dog hair and keeping grooming areas tidy throughout the day, and maintaining a clean, welcoming space overall.
- Team Support: Communicating with groomers about scheduling changes or client needs, and pitching in wherever the team needs an extra hand to keep the day running smoothly.

Qualifications and Skills
- Customer Service Experience: Prior experience in a customer-facing role (reception, retail, hospitality, or similar) is preferred but not required — we're happy to train the right person.
- Comfort with Computers: General comfort using a computer, email, and basic booking or point-of-sale software; no specific system experience required.
- Comfort Around Dogs: Comfortable and confident being around dogs of all sizes and temperaments throughout the day.
- Communication Skills: Clear, professional verbal and written communication for phone calls, messages, and in-person interactions.
- High School Diploma: A high school diploma or equivalent.

Compensation
- Wage: Starting at $19/hour.
- Pay Growth: Wage is subject to increase over time based on strong performance reviews.

Pay: From $19.00 per hour
