BC Public Service situated in Victoria, BC V9B 6X2 CA is currently looking for applications for the role of Dishwasher who is a self-motivated individual with excellent interpersonal skills. The selected candidate must start work promptly. This is an auxiliary position that will be scheduled as and when required until December 2026.

- The candidate must operate and provide daily maintenance to the commercial dishwashing machine by activating it at the beginning of the shift, ensuring sufficient supplies of dish washing soap, rinsing solution, and flatware soaking chemicals are available for the day’s shift, shutting down the machine, removing food particles, and replacing water.
- The candidate must pick up soiled china, flatware, glassware, utensils, and other items from the server area and return them to the kitchen for washing.
- The candidate must load the commercial dishwashing machine, engage the cycle, unload the machine after the cleaning cycle is complete, and dry the dishes.
- The candidate must sort all stainless-steel flatware into storage containers, stack and/or place china, glassware, and other items into appropriate racks, and return them to the serving area.
- The candidate must wash kitchen smallware such as food storage containers, baking pans/trays, cooking utensils, and other items and distribute them to the appropriate storage areas.
- The candidate must clean and sanitize all work area tables, mobile service carts, and shelving and sweep and mop floors in kitchen and storage areas.
- The candidate must clean and polish stainless steel coffee urns, chafing dishes, food pans, and other items.
- The candidate must prepare food and beverage serving equipment for catering and take-out service.
- The candidate must request and replenish required supplies from the storage area.
- The candidate must collect, prepare, organize, and store recyclable items and refuse.
- The candidate must clean, peel,
and prepare fruit and vegetables and assist with other assigned food preparation duties.
- The candidate must assemble ingredients and assist in preparing salads, desserts, and catering meals.
- The candidate must evaluate present food, cleaning, and dishwashing stock and communicate required supplies to the Executive Chef.
- The candidate must enhance the overall dining experience by demonstrating service excellence.
- The candidate must take responsibility for maintaining a safe work environment, following safe work practices and procedures, and reporting potential hazards.
- The candidate must perform other duties as assigned within the scope of work.
Job Requirements
- The candidate must have a minimum of 1 year of experience in a hotel, restaurant, or private club facility, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- The candidate must hold a valid British Columbia FOODSAFE Level 1 certification.
- The candidate must have knowledge of dishwashing equipment and methods.
- The candidate must understand the different types of dishware, glassware, and utensils and know how to handle them appropriately to prevent breakage and damage.
- The candidate must have a basic understanding of standard practices, methods, and procedures for large volume food preparation and service, including knife skills and the use of kitchen equipment.
- The candidate must have good verbal communication skills when coordinating with coworkers.
- The candidate must be a reliable and consistent performer in a variety of kitchen tasks.
- The candidate must demonstrate a high attention to detail.
- The candidate must display professionalism by adhering to industry and organizational standards.
- The candidate must have time-management skills to keep pace with a busy kitchen environment.
- The candidate must demonstrate a willingness to learn, follow written and verbal instruction,
and receive feedback.
- The candidate must demonstrate a commitment to providing excellent client service.
- The candidate must be able to work closely with kitchen staff, servers, and other team members to maintain a smooth workflow.
- The candidate must be able to adapt to changes in routine on short notice.
