We are currently seeking an experienced Head Chef (NOC 62200) to join our kitchen team.

Compensation: $38.5 per hour

Hours: 40 hours per week

Job requirements

Completion of secondary school is required.

Completion of a culinary program or equivalent combination of education, training and experience is required.

Several years of experience in commercial food preparation, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or senior culinary role, is required.

Experience supervising kitchen operations, including staff coordination, scheduling, task delegation and workflow management, is required.

Demonstrated experience preparing Chinese cuisine, including proficiency in wok cooking, sauces and other Chinese culinary techniques, is required.

Experience with menu planning, recipe development, food costing and inventory control is required.

Demonstrated ability to lead, train, and evaluate kitchen staff, including scheduling, task delegation, and performance feedback, is required.

Strong capacity to work in a fast paced environment, prioritize multiple tasks, and make on the spot decisions to maintain consistent quality and service speed, is required.

Job duties

Plan, direct and supervise the daily operations of the kitchen including workflow optimization, shift coverage,



and compliance with health regulations to ensure efficient food preparation and service.

Develop, standardize and update menus and recipes based on customer preferences, seasonal ingredients, and business needs, while balancing creativity with cost targets and brand identity.

Oversee the preparation, cooking and presentation of Chinese cuisine, and ensure consistency in food quality, taste and plating through regular taste tests, plate inspections, and pre service briefings.

Estimate food and ingredient requirements, monitor inventory and control food waste.

Monitor food, labour and operating costs and assist with menu pricing and budget planning.

Supervise, coordinate and schedule cooks and other kitchen staff, including assigning duties and managing workflow.

Train kitchen staff in food preparation, cooking techniques, sanitation procedures and workplace safety, conducting hands on demonstrations and periodic refresher sessions.

Inspect ingredients and prepared dishes to ensure they meet quality and food safety standards, following internal specification guidelines and sanitation protocols.

Order food, kitchen supplies and equipment from suppliers, negotiate pricing and delivery terms, and coordinate preventive maintenance and timely repair of all kitchen equipment.

Assist with the recruitment, selection and training of kitchen staff as required.

Coordinate kitchen production for regular restaurant service, private functions, banquets and catering events.

Prepare and cook food as required, including specialty Chinese dishes and customized meals for special events.
