Job Title: Manager of Philanthropy

Job Reports to: CEO

Category: 4 - 5 days per-week, 2-year contract/ possibility to extend

Salary: $75,000 - $83,000

Benefits: 50% employer paid extended health benefits

Travel: Opportunities to visit DWC project sites on volunteer/ donor trips

Paid Time Off: 3 weeks’ vacation and statutory holidays

Location: Hybrid or remote in BC with regular travel to Kamloops

Developing World Connections is an international development charity located in Kamloops, British Columbia. Its mandate is to address issues of poverty and social justice and create greater global engagement. It accomplishes this mandate through community development projects in various countries throughout Africa, Asia and Latin America.

This work is carried out by sending volunteer teams to work on small infrastructure projects like building schools or water systems, and through implementing longer-term donor-funded projects directly with its in- country partners.

Here’s a peek at the great things you’ll be doing:

Reporting to the CEO and with a focus on major gifts, the Manager of Philanthropy will develop a year-round fundraising strategy that builds strong relationships with donors, businesses and foundations. In this position, the successful candidate will build a robust and intentional major gifts program.

The Manager of Philanthropy will provide fundraising leadership and recommend then execute a strategic fundraising plan. The successful candidate will be a person with strong relationship building skills. The plan will grow donor support through fundraising channels such as individual giving and sponsorships.

The work will include creation and implementation of plans for prospect and donor cultivation, solicitation and stewardship, prospect development and other fundraising opportunities as they arise with businesses and foundations. This position will not have any direct reports.

The Manager of Philanthropy will collaborate with the CEO on fundraising and provide the CEO with all relevant information and updates in a timely manner, troubleshooting and intervening where required to ensure all tasks, timelines and goals are met.



The Manager of Philanthropy will be responsible for developing, monitoring and addressing issues related to the critical path, work plans and all deliverables related to the areas of fundraising.

Fundraising Duties The successful candidate will grow and strengthen fundraising from major donors, businesses, foundations and other philanthropic partners. The work will include:

- Developing annual work plans and critical paths for fundraising revenue streams, with an emphasis on major gift fundraising, in consulting with the CEO.
- Understanding donor and prospect motivations to become philanthropic partners with DWC and developing engagement strategies that deepen donor relationships and increase support.
- Identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major gift prospects and donors through personalized relationship management strategies.
- Building and managing a portfolio of major donors and prospects, including conducting donor meetings, preparing briefing materials, documenting activity, and advancing donors through the cultivation cycle.
- Monitoring and reporting on major gift activity, donor movement through the pipeline, fundraising outcomes, and progress toward revenue targets.
- Working closely with the CEO, Board members, volunteers, and other stakeholders to identify, engage, and solicit major gift prospects and leadership donors.
- Managing and guiding external vendors related to fundraising strategy and execution. Overseeing project quotes, proofing, final approvals and any final reporting process.
- Supporting events, such as the annual golf tournament. Event planning and execution is carried out with other team members.
- National and international travel may be required. Valid passport and ability to travel outside of Canada is essential.

Education and Association preferences:

- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- CFRE credential preferred.
- University degree related to philanthropy a plus.

Experience requirements and preferences:

- Five years’ recent experience in fundraising, with a generalist’s understanding of the profession and experience closing major gifts.
- Experience designing and implementing fundraising initiatives, including induvial cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.
- Experience writing donor communications is required. Samples will be required at interview stage.
- Experience in developing, implementing and managing plans, projects and reports.
- Demonstrated ability to focus on results and effectively communicate goals and impact to supporters and within the DWC team.
- Knowledge and/or experience with international development desirable.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

- Proactive attitude, with the ability to take initiative and to receive direction from the CEO.
- Knowledge and understanding of fundraising principles, donor relations and charitable giving trends.
- Ability to demonstrate maturity, judgement and discretion in dealing with confidential, sensitive matters.
- Skilled with analysis and interpretation of fundraising data and numbers.
- Superior writing and editing skills are essential.
- Robust verbal, interpersonal and communication skills.
- Collaborative work style and ability to work in a flexible, fast-paced team environment.
- Ability to share information in an effective and collaborative manner
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to prioritize conflicting demands and work within tight deadlines.
- Ability to manage numerous projects simultaneously.
- Demonstrated knowledge of MS Office Suite programs and CRM tools.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends occasionally.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
- If not located in Kamloops, must be willing to travel to Kamloops up to 4 times per year.
