Duties and Responsibilities:
The Parking Control Agent (PCA) works under the general direction of the on-duty Shift Manager for Campus Safety Services and receives overall supervision of the Assistant Director – Parking and Technical Services. The PCA operates in support of the objectives of Parking Services for Carleton University and is responsible for fulfilling parking duties in a courteous, helpful and professional manner. This position provides fair, efficient and effective enforcement strategies to maintain the integrity of the parking program.
The PCA supports safety and security by conducting check-ins at designated parking areas and utilizing surveillance technology to monitor activity. Additionally, the PCA may focus on proactive engagement with parking users through information sessions and visibility at key access points, offering guidance and addressing concerns.
Qualifications:
The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:
- Requires knowledge and understanding of university policies, parking regulations and basic regulatory awareness.
- Is expected to remain current in new and amended legislation, as well as policies, that are pertinent to the position.
- Able to interact with and transfer information within a team environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
- Able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing - through incident reports, and in assisting and providing general information to the university community and visitors while demonstrating attention to detail.
- Requires sound judgement, good communication skills,
and a respectful skilled approach to engage with members of the university community, including in challenging situations.
Parking Control Agent
- Provides general information to the community and, when necessary, clearly and appropriately communicates parking rules and directions to individuals who may be in violation of university parking regulations.
- Able to observe and report on complex issues, quickly determining appropriate actions and responding in a composed, self-assured manner while dealing with stressful situations.
- Uses professional judgement and training to assess situations, and escalate matters to appropriate internal/external authority in a timely and proportionate manner.
- Be self-motivated and work with limited direct supervision.
- Show initiative performing daily duties and identifying and solving problems.
- Actively demonstrate cultural awareness and sensitivity when interacting with a diverse campus community.
- Understand the principles of service excellence.
- Must be able to operate a vehicle safely and in compliance with applicable standards, and hold a valid, fully licensed Ontario driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Education and Experience:
The above is normally acquired through the completion of:
- Completion of High School Diploma. Completion of Post-Secondary Education may be
preferred.
- A valid security guard license as defined in the Ontario Private Security and Investigative
Services Act, 2005 is considered an asset.
- Must possess a valid first aid certificate (Standard level) with CPR level C from WSIB recognized provider.
- Minimum 2 years of full-time experience working in security or parking enforcement role demonstrated experience providing support for individuals in a challenging and complex work environment that requires the ability to prioritize work, maintain composure under stress. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
