Are you a payroll professional with strong attention to detail and a passion for accurate, timely results? Join our team as a Payroll Specialist, where you will manage full-cycle payroll,
support benefits administration, and handle selected accounting and reconciliation activities. You will also work closely with HR and other teams to support payroll needs and a positive employee experience.
A day in the life of a Payroll Specialist
This role combines full-cycle payroll and benefits administration with hands-on accounting responsibilities. Approximately 70% of the role focuses on payroll and benefits, with 30% supporting accounting activities. Solid payroll knowledge and solid accounting and reconciliation skills are essential.
- Manage full-cycle semi-monthly payroll using ADP Workforce Now.
- Prepare, review, and import payroll files to ensure accurate and timely processing.
- Administer employee benefits, including enrolments, changes, terminations, reconciliations, and employee inquiries.
- Process Records of Employment (ROEs), termination pay, and other payroll adjustments in accordance with applicable employment standards.
- Complete year-end payroll activities, including T4 processing and annual reconciliations.
- Prepare and submit WSIB/WCB and other required payroll remittances and reports.
- Generate payroll reports and provide payroll-related information to Finance, HR, and other departments as required.
- Act as the primary point of contact for employee payroll and benefits inquiries.
- Prepare payroll-related journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
- Process and review employee expense reimbursements.
- Reconcile corporate credit cards and monitor related activity.
- Review and reconcile store cash deposits and support company cash monitoring.
- Prepare assigned accounting reports and assist with month-end activities.
- Support other accounting and finance duties as assigned.
Who you are
- You have hands-on experience with full-cycle payroll, with a strong focus on accuracy, compliance, and meeting deadlines.
- You are comfortable working with payroll systems and other finance-related tools, with ADP Workforce Now experience preferred.
- You have experience handling accounting-related tasks such as reconciliations, journal entries, expenses, cash, or credit card activity.
- You are highly organized and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- You communicate clearly and professionally with employees, leadership, and cross-functional teams.
- You are detail-oriented, results-focused, and proactive in resolving payroll and accounting discrepancies.
What you need
- Minimum 1 year of full-cycle payroll experience, including experience with payroll software; ADP Workforce Now is preferred.
- Minimum 1 year of experience in an accounting-related role.
- Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
- PCP designation, or progress toward the designation, is considered an asset.
- Strong Excel skills, including VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, PivotTables, and data reconciliation.
- Solid understanding of basic accounting principles and account reconciliation.
