As the Mechanical Designer, reporting directly to our Engineering manager. You will be responsible for designing and developing mechanical components, machinery, tooling, and automated equipment.
Create and modify 3D CAD models, assemblies, and detailed manufacturing drawings.
Design mechanical components, machine frames, fixtures, tooling, conveyors, guarding, and automation equipment.
Prepare detailed drawings with dimensions, tolerances, materials, and manufacturing specifications.
Develop BOMs (Bills of Materials) and maintain accurate engineering documentation.
Select mechanical components such as bearings, motors, gearboxes, cylinders, linear guides, actuators, fasteners, and structural materials.
Work with electrical and controls engineers to integrate mechanical, electrical, and automation systems.
Perform design calculations and basic mechanical analysis as required.
Review designs for manufacturability, assembly, serviceability, cost, and safety.
Support prototype development, fabrication, assembly, testing, and commissioning.
Troubleshoot mechanical issues and implement design modifications or improvements.
Review supplier drawings and coordinate with vendors for custom components.
Participate in design reviews and provide technical support to manufacturing and assembly teams.
Maintain drawing revisions, engineering change orders, and project documentation.
Ensure designs meet customer requirements, applicable standards, and company specifications.
Qualifications & Experience
Education: Post-secondary degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Automation, or a related field.
Experience: 5+ years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in industrial automation, manufacturing, machinery, or robotics.
Strong proficiency with SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar CAD software.
Experience with 3D modeling, mechanical assemblies, and detailed manufacturing drawings.
Strong understanding of machining, fabrication, welding, sheet metal, and material selection.
Ability to interpret engineering drawings, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing, and technical specifications.
Knowledge of pneumatic and mechanical systems.
Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
