Ottawa, Canada - Hybrid

Position Summary

Thales has a vacancy for a Project Cost Controller to provide financial support to the project team(s), representing Finance within the PMO organization and supporting Project Management with economic, financial, and administrative tasks.

In this position you will also performs cost control, billing, and project financial management functions while compiling Thales accounting and internal control processes and delivering timely, reliable, and documented information and reports.

Regulatory Compliance Requirements

This position requires direct or indirect access to hardware, software or technical information controlled under the Canadian Export Control List, the Canadian Controlled Goods Program, the Canadian Industrial Security Program, the US International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and/or the US Export Administration Regulations (EAR). All applicants must be eligible or able to obtain authorization for such access including eligibility to the Canadian Controlled Goods Program and able to obtain a Canadian NATO Secret clearance.

Key Areas of Responsibility

- Responsible for project cost control in conformance with company policy; develops and prepares project budgets and contract changes and, in collaboration with PMO, maintains the financial budget and Estimate At Completion (EAC) in Primavera, resolving inconsistencies and EAC changes jointly with the Project Management Office and Finance Manager.
- Prepares and validates with the Project Manager monthly re-forecasting of Sales, Gross Margin, Cost Variance, Adjusted Gross Margin, and Cash-in, ensuring timely integration into the monthly Company Operational Budget Review (OBR).
- Produces monthly project reports (Dashboards) and forecast data packages identifying major risks and opportunities, including actual cost validation, commitment cost validation, Estimate to Complete (ETC) validation, and control checks; produces required external weekly and monthly reporting, monitors actuals and budgets, and prepares external task forecasts of project burn-rate for level-of-effort contracts.
- Supports timely project billing and monitors project cash,



liaising with the Company’s Treasurer on project cash flow, foreign exchange exposure, hedging activities, and customer cash collection.
- Supports the Business Control Manager in monthly Project Control Group processes, including Timesheet Administration, monthly programmatic consolidation of all projects, and financial analysis; prepares project pricing and supports the internal pricing specialist on bids.
- Works to establish overarching global project processes for improved monitoring and control; supports various internal and external audits as required and performs special project assignments as requested.

Minimum Qualifications

- Bachelor of Commerce or Bachelor of Arts (major in Accounting), and/or similar education and equivalent experience.
- 1-3 years of experience in large multi-national or national organization, in the Defense & Security sector or previous experience in project cost controlling.
- Experience working on projects and knowledge of basic project management and the project lifecycle.
- Knowledge and previous experience working with different business systems and tools (i.e. SAP, Primavera and Excel).
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Positive attitude with solution focused approach.

What We Offer The reference Total Target Compensation (TTC) market range for this position, inclusive of annual base salary and the variable compensation target, is between Total Target Cash (TTC) $61,035.00– $81,380.00 CAD Annual. This reflects how companies in a similar industry and geographic region generally pay for similar jobs. This range helps the Company make pay decisions as one data point among many. Where a position falls within this range is also dependent on other factors including – but not limited to – the employee’s career path history, competencies, skills and performance, as well as the company’s annual salary budget,



the customer’s program requirements, and the company’s internal equity.
