Job Overview

We are seeking a dynamic, compassionate, and motivated Assistant Supervisor to join the leadership team at Little Cubs.

In this leadership role, the Assistant Supervisor will work closely with the Centre Supervisor and Pedagogy Lead to support the day-to-day operation of the childcare centre while helping create a safe, nurturing, inclusive, and engaging environment for children, families, and educators.

Little Cubs is a Reggio Emilia-inspired early learning environment. We believe children are capable, curious, and full of potential, and that meaningful learning emerges through relationships, exploration, play, inquiry, and the environment around them. The Assistant Supervisor will play an important role in supporting educators in bringing this philosophy to life throughout our classrooms and daily practices.

This position is ideal for an experienced early childhood skilled who is ready to grow into leadership while remaining connected to children, educators, families, and classroom practice.

Duties & Responsibilities

- Provide leadership, mentorship, guidance, and day-to-day support to educators.
- Help foster a positive, collaborative, accountable, and professional workplace culture.
- Support educators in implementing Little Cubs' Reggio Emilia-inspired approach and Program Statement.
- Encourage educators to view children as capable, competent, curious learners and to build curriculum from children's interests, questions, relationships, and emerging ideas.
- Support the creation of thoughtful classroom environments where the environment acts as the "third teacher."
- Encourage the use of open-ended materials, loose parts, natural materials, provocations, inquiry-based experiences, and opportunities for children to express themselves through the Hundred Languages of Children.
- Support educators with observations,

pedagogical documentation, reflection, and extending children's learning rather than relying solely on predetermined activities.
- Help ensure classroom environments are intentional, inviting, organized, developmentally appropriate, and responsive to children's evolving interests and needs.
- Observe classroom practices and provide constructive coaching and feedback to educators.
- Support inclusive practices and accommodations for children with diverse abilities and individual needs.
- Build positive and respectful relationships with children and actively engage in play, inquiry, conversation, and learning alongside them.
- Support effective and professional communication with parents and guardians regarding children's experiences, development, and well-being.
- Assist with classroom coverage and caregiving responsibilities when required, including meals, toileting, diapering, transitions, rest periods, and outdoor programming.
- Help maintain high standards for health, safety, cleanliness, supervision, and organization throughout the centre.
- Support onboarding, orientation, professional learning, and ongoing development of educators.
- Assist the Supervisor with documentation, administrative responsibilities, staff coordination, and other operational duties as required.
- Step into additional leadership responsibilities when the Centre Supervisor is unavailable.

Skills & Qualifications

- Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) in valuable standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators preferred.
- Previous experience working in a licensed childcare or early learning setting.
- Leadership, mentoring, supervisory,

or team-lead experience is considered a strong asset.
- Knowledge of Ontario's Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA), licensing requirements, and How Does Learning Happen? is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of or experience with the Reggio Emilia approach is strongly preferred.
- Genuine interest in inquiry-based, emergent, and child-led learning.
- Ability to mentor educators and support reflective pedagogical practice.
- Strong understanding of child development, responsive relationships, and inclusive early childhood practices.
- Experience supporting children with diverse abilities or additional needs is an asset.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships with children, families, educators, and community partners.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to balance leadership, administrative, and classroom responsibilities.
- Ability to remain calm, positive, professional, and solution-focused in a busy childcare environment.
- Demonstrates initiative, accountability, sound judgment, and a willingness to learn and grow.
- Passion for creating exceptional early learning experiences for children and supporting educators in their professional growth.

Our Approach to Learning
