We are hiring two Co-op Students to join our Linear Projects team in Edmonton, AB.

Position: Winter 2027 Co-op Student, Engineering - Linear Projects
Term: 8 months starting January 2027
Year: 2nd Term and Higher Preferred
Discipline: Civil, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering Students Preferred

Working alongside engineers, project managers, contractors, and operations teams, you'll contribute to projects that help deliver safe, reliable essential services to the communities we serve.

In this role, you'll gain exposure to project management, construction oversight, contractor coordination, utility design processes, municipal approvals, and stakeholder engagement while supporting infrastructure projects from initiation through closeout. About the Opportunity




EPCOR Commercial Services is responsible for delivering and supporting utility infrastructure projects, including underground and aerial utility systems. We're seeking two engineering students to join our Linear Projects team for an eight-month co-op placement.

This is an opportunity to gain practical engineering and project management experience while supporting infrastructure projects that directly contribute to the safe and reliable operation of utility systems throughout Edmonton.

What You'll Learn

Utility infrastructure project planning and delivery

Construction management and contractor coordination

Project scheduling, budgeting, and performance tracking

Utility design review and document control processes

Municipal approval and Franchise Agreement requirements

Asset management and capital project lifecycle management

Collaboration between engineering, operations, maintenance, and construction teams

Infrastructure project risk identification and issue resolution

Technical Experience You'll Gain

Construction monitoring and field site inspections

Contractor performance and progress tracking

Capital project administration and reporting

Engineering document management and SharePoint systems

Project schedule and budget monitoring

Franchise Agreement review and approval processes

Utility relocation assessments and standards compliance reviews

Coordination with internal stakeholders, contractors, and municipal agencies

Project closeout activities and asset‑in‑service tracking

This experience will provide valuable insight into how engineering, construction, and operations teams work together to successfully deliver utility infrastructure projects. Depending on project needs, you'll have opportunities to work in both office and field environments while supporting active projects across Edmonton.

Key Responsibilities
You'll be involved in a variety of project coordination and engineering support activities, including:

Assisting with monitoring contractor activities at project sites and tracking construction progress

Supporting project managers with schedule, budget, and project administration activities

Coordinating communication between engineering, operations,



maintenance, and construction teams

Maintaining project documentation and records within SharePoint and other project management systems

Tracking project status, capital work orders, and asset‑in‑service activities

Preparing Franchise Agreement sign‑off packages and coordinating approvals

Reviewing water line relocation requests for program eligibility and standards compliance

Participating in project meetings, site visits, and the preparation of meeting records

Supporting project closeout and project reporting activities

What You'll Need to Succeed
To be successful in this role, you should:

Be currently enrolled in Civil, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering at a recognized post‑secondary institution

Have an interest in utility systems, infrastructure projects, or construction management

Demonstrate strong analytical and problem‑solving skills

Be comfortable working independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team

Possess strong written and verbal communication skills

Have excellent organizational and time‑management abilities

Be able to interpret engineering drawings and construction plans

Be proficient with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word

Assets

Experience with AutoCAD or MicroStation

Familiarity with GIS applications such as ArcGIS or ESRI products

Previous exposure to engineering project delivery, construction, or utility infrastructure projects

Experience working with technical documentation, drawings, or project records

You enjoy solving problems, collaborating with others, and learning how engineering projects are planned, coordinated, and executed. You're eager to apply your technical knowledge in a practical setting while contributing to projects that support essential services for customers and communities.

Compensation and Work Schedule
Hours of Work: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday

Student Wage Grid

Term 1: $34.84/hour

Term 2: $36.38/hour

Term 3: $38.01/hour

Term 4: $39.74/hour

Term 5: $41.52/hour

Final wage placement will be determined at the time of selection in accordance with the applicable collective agreement.
