Upper Grand District School Board Transitions & Graduation Coach (Teacher) – Indigenous Focus (Grades 7-12) Effective: Immediately to June 30, 2027 FEDERATION AFFILIATION: While performing this position, you are a member of the Ontario Secondary School teachers' Federation representing the District 18 Teachers' Bargaining Unit.

Summary Reporting to the Coordinating Administrator of Indigenous Education , the Transitions & Graduation Coach - Indigenous Focus will support Indigenous students in grades 7-12 in successful transitions, pathways preparations, and graduation. The Indigenous Transitions & Graduation Coach, in collaboration with the K-12 Program Leader, Indigenous Education, school-based and other staff and the broader community, acts as an advisor to Indigenous youth, responding to individual and systemic barriers (e.g. academic, mental health, justice, cultural knowledge); identifying and addressing individual barriers to engagement, learning and well-being; facilitating access and referrals to academic supports and community resources to provide an integrated support system; and supporting the holistic well-being of First Nations, Métis and Inuit youth. Relationships rooted in local Indigenous communities are integral to this position.
Location This is an in-person, itinerant role that will require travel to a variety of schools and sites within the Upper Grand DSB. The successful candidate will have a homebase determined in consultation with the Coordinating Administrator of Indigenous Education and be in-person, daily, at sites as assigned by their supervisor.
Responsibilities include Working closely with Indigenous learners, families, community members and schools to improve student and family engagement, attendance rates, academic success, and well-being;




Advocating for each learner with teachers, other school staff and families;
Working with a range of staff and community members, including the First Nations, Métis, Inuit Education Program lead, Indigenous mental health workers, school staff, parents/guardians/families, to support learning and success of Indigenous students, and to help engage with culturally responsive approaches;
Support implementation of system goals related to Indigenous education, specifically in support of self-identified students;
Assist in transition from elementary to secondary, the exploration of the range of post-secondary pathways, and secondary graduation;
Compiling data that tracks and monitors Indigenous student achievement and well-being and preparing the data into reports;
Providing opportunities for Indigenous learner leadership skills, and connecting with Indigenous role models and leaders in the community;
Creating spaces for students to voice their experiences to enable the board and schools to establish trusting relationships and responsive services; and
Promoting a deeper understanding of Indigenous perspectives and Indigenous student needs among school staff.
Working collaboratively with the other Transitions & Graduation Coach - Indigenous Focus
Qualifications & Experience Must be a member in valuable standing with the Ontario College of Teachers
Intermediate/Senior qualifications required
First Nations, Métis,



Inuit Education qualifications and/or identification as First Nation, Métis or Inuit required
Special Education qualifications an asset
Guidance qualifications an asset
Candidates should have experience with Creating an equitable learning environment that supports the engagement and well-being of students;
Increasing student engagement;
Embedding culturally responsive and relevant pedagogy;
Cultivating and nurturing positive relationships with learners and families of Indigenous ancestry;
Identifying systemic barriers and appropriate intervention points;
Knowing and understanding with sensitivity the effects and impacts of historical educational experiences of Indigenous Peoples, including transgenerational trauma; and
Accessing local Indigenous community resources and the ability to support students and their families in accessing and navigating these resources.
Other Qualifications Excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills and problem-solving, sound judgment and sensitivity, broad understanding of and an inclusive approach to relationship building;
Experience handling complex issues with sensitivity, confidentiality, tact, and discretion;
Demonstrated commitment to working with and supporting Indigenous youth;
Ability to collect, collate and interpret data;
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage a caseload, prioritize and organize work effectively, and maintain detailed records;
Experience using Edsembli and Clevr an asset.
Valid "G" Class driver's license required.
Preference will be given for candidates who Are First Nations, Métis and/or Inuit
Possess a degree and/or additional qualifications in Indigenous Studies/Indigenous Education
