Utility Operator I – Storm & Wastewater

The Engineering Department
The Engineering Department plays a vital role in designing, maintaining, and improving the district’s infrastructure and public services. Our team is driven by innovation, community impact, and a commitment to delivering high-quality, cost-effective engineering solutions that support the needs of residents and businesses across Saanich.

Responsibilities

Assist in the operations of sewer and drain equipment and machinery.

Assist in bank stabilization, gabion installation and lift station construction.

Assist in spill response.

Requirements

Grade 12 or equivalent.

One year of pipefitting experience in water or wastewater systems.

EOCP OIT (Operator in Training) Certification for Water Distribution or Wastewater Collection is considered an asset.

Traffic Control Certificate.

Occupational First Aid Level 1 and confined space entry training as required.

Basic navigation skills of field-based GIS software.





A valid Class 3 BC Driver’s Licence with air brake endorsement is an asset and annual renewal of a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract are also required.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

The successful candidate
Will work Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (40 hours per week). In addition to the interview process, testing will be conducted. Only those under consideration will be contacted.

These are
C.U.P.E. Local 2011 positions with a wage of $36.68 per hour (2026 rate) plus an excellent benefits package.
