Ops Engineer Location: Toronto, ON Work Model: Onsite Job Type: Full Time Roles and Responsibilities Hands-on Research Spikes & POCs: Explore, build, and test Proof of Concepts to understand how Git
Hub Enterprise features and migration tools work in practice.
Experiment with Git
Hub Actions: Build prototype CI/CD workflows, test out reusable action templates, experiment with runner environments, and compare capabilities with existing Jenkins pipelines.
Test Toolchain Integrations: Set up and validate integration points between Git
Hub and our current toolchain (Jenkins, Artifactory, Sonar
Qube, CDD, Jira, Confluence, AWS, and Kubernetes).
Investigate Migration Paths: Test repository migration scripts and utilities (Bitbucket to Git
Hub), identify what works well, discover potential edge cases, and share insights with senior engineers.
Support Build & Automation Tasks: Write and test automation scripts (Python, Bash, Groovy) to interact with REST APIs, parse configs, and automate repetitive testing tasks.
Document & Share Findings: Write clear, concise summaries, spike reports, and ''how-to'' guides based on your experiments and POC results.
Collaborate with the Team: Work alongside senior engineers, platform specialists, and developers to gather feedback on POCs and iterate on solutions.
Skills Required 2 5+ years of practical experience in software development, Dev
Ops, or systems engineering (or equivalent project/internship experience).
Working Knowledge of Git & SCM:
Familiarity with branching strategies, pull requests, and source control workflows in Git, Git
Hub, or Bitbucket. CI/CD Fundamentals: Hands-on exposure to building or modifying CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Git
Hub Actions, Jenkins, or similar platforms).
Scripting & Coding Skills: Practical programming/scripting ability in Python, Bash, or Groovy for automation and API interaction.
Curiosity & Experimentation Mindset: A strong appetite for exploring current tools, tinkering with technology, troubleshooting issues hands-on, and figuring out how things work under the hood.
Build Tools & Dependencies: Basic familiarity with build tools such as Maven or Gradle, and package/artifact repositories like Artifactory.
Communication & Documentation: Good communication skills and the ability to summarize findings, document steps taken, and present POC demos to team members.
Nice to Have Hands-on exposure to Git
Hub Actions (creating custom actions, workflow automation, or building POC pipelines).
Exposure to containerization basics (Docker, Kubernetes).
Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS).
Experience working with code quality or security tools (Sonar
Qube, Snyk, Checkmarx).
Familiarity with enterprise workflow tools like Jira, Confluence, or release tools like CDD (Continuous Delivery Director).
Any foundational certifications (e.g., Git
Hub Actions, Git
Hub Foundations, or equivalent).
