This role at the Ontario Native Women’s Association (ONWA) involves working directly with Indigenous women and families to provide essential mental health services. The Mental Health Counselor will offer counselling, crisis intervention, and advocate for access to culturally relevant resources. Your skills are vital in addressing the unique challenges faced by Indigenous populations regarding mental health and trauma.
Key Responsibilities:
• Offer comprehensive counselling and support services
• Perform clinical assessments and case management
• Provide crisis intervention to at-risk clients
• Advocate for and connect clients to traditional healing resources
• Engage in the development of mental health initiatives
Requirements:
• Degree or diploma in Counselling or related field
• 3-5 years’ experience working with Indigenous communities
• Knowledge of trauma-informed care practices
• Excellent communication and organizational abilities
• Familiarity with the impact of intergenerational trauma
