Title: Driver, Emergency Food Services

Reports to: Manager, Food Access

Employment Type: Permanent Part Time

Compensation: $24/ hour

Hours: Fixed, alternating biweekly schedule totaling 35 hours per pay period: Wk 1: 14 hrs WK 2: 21 hrs

Who we are
For 35 years, a team of passionate staff and volunteers at Neighbour-to-Neighbour Centre have been collaborating to improve the Hamilton community and meet the issues of food insecurity and poverty head-on. What started as a small food bank has evolved into an indispensable part of the community’s social fabric.

Neighbour to Neighbour works to improve the quality of life in the Hamilton community by offering access to tutoring programs for children, community kitchen programs, utility subsidy programs, family counselling, emergency food access and a host of other interventions. Neighbour to Neighbour works to empowering people with the tools and ideas that will help change their lives.

Position Summary
The Emergency Food Services Driver position ensures that the effective pick-up and delivery of food from community partners is executed in a safe and efficient manner. The Driver serves as an ambassador for Neighbour to Neighbour exemplifying behavior and interactions with absolute courtesy in accordance with the Centre’s values of respect, dignity, integrity and accountability.

Key Responsibilities
Pick up and deliver food donations daily while following all health and safety rules

Plan driving routes carefully to save time and complete tasks efficiently

Work with volunteers in counting inventory, stocking, and facility upkeep
Deliver food directly to clients' homes when volunteer drivers are unavailable




Safely operate the forklift and assist team with heavy lifting
Provide excellent service to food donors and community partners

Notify manager immediately all vehicle defects, safety hazards, and inventory, warehouse, or volunteer coordination concerns

Protect the privacy of all home delivery clients, ensuring they are treated with dignity and respect.

Conduct daily pre-trip inspections for safe compliance
Maintain highly accurate daily vehicle mileage and usage logs

Qualifications & Experience
Proven history driving extended vehicles and trucks under 24 feet

Valid proof of Forklift Certificate is required

Clean Driver’s Abstract and Vulnerable Sector Check required

Highly dependable, detail-oriented, and collaborative

Ability to maintain confidentiality, privacy, and respect for all Home Delivery clients
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs repeatedly; frequent bending, twisting, and reaching; prolonged sitting, standing, and walking
