MDA Space is seeking an Intermediate Systems Member of Technical Staff (MTS), Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), to support the company's current and next-generation Earth observation and remote sensing satellite missions .
Based in Richmond, British Columbia, the position provides an opportunity to work with a leading Canadian space and geointelligence company on the definition, design, integration, verification and ongoing support of SAR missions, systems and payloads across multiple satellite programs.
The successful candidate will join MDA's SAR team and contribute to system-level engineering, technology development and the advancement of future Earth observation capabilities. The work includes evaluating system designs, developing prototypes, performing engineering analysis and helping move current radar technologies from concept toward operational satellite systems.
Key responsibilities include: Contribute to the development of current and next-generation SAR Earth observation and remote sensing satellites.
Support the definition, design, integration, verification and sustainment of SAR missions, systems and payloads.
Conduct operational analyses, engineering trade studies and system-level design work.
Develop analytical and algorithmic models using tools such as MATLAB, Python and Excel.
Develop prototype embedded software and firmware.
Participate in hands-on prototype development involving radar hardware.
Help define system-level specifications and review hardware designs, schematics, layouts and interfaces.
Contribute to test and verification plans covering unit, subsystem and payload-level testing.
Support environmental and electromagnetic compatibility testing.
Develop test automation, define test cases and analyze results.
Translate customer requirements into conceptual system designs.
Develop technical documentation, requirements and interface-control documents.
Work alongside senior SAR engineers with opportunities for continued professional development.
Qualifications Candidates require a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Engineering Physics , together with at least two years of relevant experience working with complex digital systems .
MDA is looking for knowledge of digital signal processing and familiarity with MATLAB or similar analytical tools, Excel and programming languages such as C, C++ or Python .
Candidates should also have strong technical writing and presentation skills and be comfortable participating in systems integration, testing and troubleshooting.
Experience with radar/SAR technology, Earth observation systems and related satellite technologies would make this particularly relevant to candidates looking to build a career in Canada's remote-sensing sector.
Security requirements The successful candidate must be able to obtain and maintain Reliability Status security clearance and pass the security assessment required under Canada's Controlled Goods Program .
Compensation MDA lists a salary range of $78,000–$100,000 per year , with the final offer dependent on the successful candidate's qualifications and experience. The company also provides health, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, retirement savings and employee/family assistance benefits.
