The Opportunity
We’re looking for an Accountant to join our Finance team in St. John’s, NL.
In this role, you’ll play a key part in managing our financial operations, ensuring compliance with regulatory bodies, and supporting business operations and growth. You’ll bring strong technical accounting expertise and oversee reporting, reconciliations, and controls while working closely with the CFO, auditors, and operational staff and providing support and mentorship to designated remote team members to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and timely completion of assigned tasks.
This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced accounting professional who is analytical, detail-oriented, deadline-driven, and comfortable managing multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
What You’ll Do
Financial Accounting & Reporting
- Oversee and manage the monthly close schedule, ensuring all activities are completed on a timely basis.
- Ensure accurate recording of brokerage income, commission revenue, and payables/receivables.
- Ensure all monthly journal entries, including payroll, accruals, prepaids, property, plant and equipment, depreciation, and loans, are completed in accordance with the month-end close schedule.
- Review trial balance and prepare draft statements on a monthly basis.
- Manage accounting and reporting for related companies.
Bank & Treasury Functions
- Administer banking and related treasury platforms
Compliance & Controls
- Complete month-end balance sheet reconciliations.
- Ensure Direct Bill and Agency Bill reconciliations are completed monthly, including working with third-party service providers.
- Identify areas for improvement in internal controls.
- Work with and liaise with external auditors to complete interim, annual, and regulatory audits.
Management & Business Support
- Support, oversee, and mentor remote team members.
- Support front-line staff to address issues and queries and facilitate resolution.
- Identify opportunities to improve financial operations and results.
- Provide monthly analysis and insight comparing results to budget and prior year.
- Provide ad hoc financial and operational support to management.
- Assist the CFO as required.
- Support external audit work to ensure timely completion of interim, annual, and regulatory audits.
- Act as an ambassador for Munn by representing and promoting the brand and business positively to customers, prospects, insurance partners, suppliers, and other key communities.

About You – Our Ideal Candidate
You’re an experienced accounting professional with strong technical knowledge and a solid understanding of accounting principles. You’re analytical, organized, and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
You communicate effectively,
work well across different teams, and bring integrity and a robust commitment to compliance. You’re also comfortable identifying opportunities to improve processes and financial operations.
Qualifications:
- A recognized accounting program of at least two years, combined with a minimum of five years of progressive accounting experience.
- Solid understanding of accounting principles.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Excel.
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a deadline-driven approach.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work cross-functionally.
- Integrity and commitment to compliance.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Knowledge of the insurance industry would be considered an asset.
