Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Accounting Technician to support our accounting and financial reporting functions. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing financial information, supporting payroll and accounts receivable/payable processes, analyzing operational financial data, and assisting management with financial planning and decision-making.
The Accounting Technician will work closely with management and accounting personnel at various locations to ensure accurate, timely, and complete financial information and reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare financial statements, supporting schedules, and financial reports for management to support planning and operational decision-making.
- Prepare payroll data and reports for management review, ensuring the accuracy of wages, deductions, and related costs.
- Reconcile customer accounts and investigate and resolve discrepancies.
- Prepare and analyze accounts receivable aging reports.
- Verify invoices are accurately recorded in the financial records.
- Gather financial data and prepare income reports for management, including reporting income by aircraft.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual operational income statements and supporting schedules as required by management.
- Review invoices and accounts payable prior to payment processing and management approval to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Prepare cost forecasts and perform cost analysis, including projected revenue, expenses, and income.
- Develop, assist with the implementation of, and maintain internal accounting processes for fire suppression cost tracking and reporting.
- Review and analyze trip-related supplier invoices to ensure accuracy, completeness, and proper supporting documentation.
- Review expenses and determine whether costs are recoverable or non-recoverable.
- Liaise with accounting staff in other locations, including Edmonton, regarding financial transactions, reconciliations, and reporting requirements.
- Perform other accounting and financial duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
- Relevant accounting/bookkeeping work experience.
- Experience with accounting software and bookkeeping systems.
- Knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, reconciliations, and financial records.
Experience
- At least 1–2 years of experience in accounting or bookkeeping.
Formal Education/Credentials Required
- Completion of a college diploma or certificate in accounting or bookkeeping.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping principles and practices.
- Ability to maintain accurate financial records and prepare accounting reports.
- Proficiency in accounting software, particularly QuickBooks, and Microsoft Office, particularly Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to perform account reconciliations and analyze financial data.
- Knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger functions.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Valuable organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to identify and resolve discrepancies in financial records.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of financial and employee information.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Pay: From $40.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 40.0 per week
