Position Description:
This role is hybrid and requires you to be at our downtown Toronto and/or Client office at a minimum 2 days per week subject to change at any time.
We are seeking a highly skilled and innovative Automation Lead to drive quality engineering and test automation initiatives across a complex banking technology environment. This role combines hands-on technical expertise with leadership responsibilities and is ideal for someone who is passionate about automation, continuous improvement, and leveraging AI-powered tools to enhance software delivery.
The successful candidate will lead automation strategy and delivery across multiple banking applications and technology platforms, mentor automation teams, and collaborate with stakeholders to ensure the delivery of scalable, high-quality testing solutions. This role also plays a key part in advancing AI-assisted software testing practices and driving automation excellence across the organization.
Your future duties and responsibilities:
Automation Strategy & Delivery
Lead the design, implementation, and delivery of test automation solutions across multiple banking applications and technology platforms.
Define and execute automation strategies aligned with business, delivery, and quality objectives.
Develop and manage automation roadmaps, project plans, risks, dependencies, and stakeholder communications.
Drive adoption of automation across UI, API, integration, regression, and end-to-end testing.
Establish and maintain automation standards, framework governance, best practices, and code quality expectations.
Technical Leadership & Hands-On Development
Design, develop, maintain, and enhance automation frameworks and test suites.
Create scalable and reusable automation assets for web, API, and integration testing.
Perform code reviews and provide technical leadership and guidance to automation engineers.
Troubleshoot and resolve complex automation challenges, recommending effective technical solutions.
Participate in Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, estimation, and execution activities.
AI Enablement & Innovation
Champion AI-assisted software testing and automation practices across quality engineering initiatives.
Utilize tools such as GitHub Copilot to improve engineering productivity and accelerate automation development.
Develop effective prompt engineering approaches and AI-assisted development strategies.
Evaluate emerging AI technologies and identify opportunities to improve testing efficiency and effectiveness.
Measure, track, and report productivity improvements resulting from AI-driven initiatives.
Stakeholder & Team Leadership
Collaborate with Product Owners, Business Analysts, Developers, and business stakeholders to ensure quality objectives are achieved.
Mentor, coach, and support automation engineers and junior team members.
Provide guidance on automation architecture, framework design, and testing strategies.
Support release planning, defect triage, root cause analysis, and quality governance activities.
Coordinate effectively with distributed onshore and offshore teams.
Required qualifications to be successful in this role:
Must Have
10+ years of overall QA/testing experience.
8+ years of strong hands-on QA automation experience.
Solid recent hands-on contribution, ideally 40–60% or more in a Lead/Architect role.
5+ years of experience designing, building, or enhancing automation frameworks.
Strong coding experience with Java and/or JavaScript.
Robust hands-on experience with Selenium WebDriver and REST Assured.
Experience with automation technologies such as Cucumber, JUnit, TestNG, and TestComplete.
Strong experience with UI and API automation, regression automation, and continuous testing.
Practical experience with GitHub Copilot, prompt engineering, or AI-enabled test automation.
Experience integrating automation into CI/CD pipelines.
Proven technical leadership and experience driving automation adoption across teams.
Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and client-facing skills.
Experience working in banking/financial services, preferably across Retail Banking, Commercial Banking, Digital Banking, Payments, or Branch Banking applications.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience leading automation transformation or modernization initiatives.
Exposure to cloud-based testing environments.
Experience working in Agile/Scrum and DevOps environments.
Experience defining automation metrics, KPIs, and reporting.
Experience working within large-scale enterprise banking environments.
