Halifax Public Libraries invites INTERNAL and EXTERNAL applications for the full-time, term position of Brand Strategy Lead in the Marketing and Communications team located at Alderney Gate Public Library.

This is a unionized position. Preference will be given to internal applicants from the NSUPE Local 14 bargaining unit.

ABOUT MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS The marketing & Communications department at Halifax Public Libraries is small and mighty. You'll be part of a team that relies heavily on teamwork and collaboration in a fast-paced work environment. The Department works directly with Library Senior Management, staff, partners, and community members to find innovative ways to reach our community and highlight library news, events, collections, and initiatives.

Our Marketing & Communications team members are enthusiastic, collaborative and creative.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

As a Brand Strategy lead, at Halifax Public Libraries you will:

- Be responsible for iterating the Library’s brand and voice through all marketing initiatives, web content, and publications.
- Manage marketing for all digital platforms, providing strategic guidance to internal stakeholders related to content authoring, accessibility, user experience, information architecture and web design best practices.
- Act as the editor for all major digital and physical Library content. Ensures accuracy and relevance aligning with Library's brand and strategic vision.
- Define, implement, and monitor marketing campaigns on behalf of the Library,



including web, SEO/SEM, email and display advertising campaigns.
- Analyze and identify actionable insights and Library’s digital media strategy from marketing research, digital marketing performance and analyzing the appropriate media data/analytics and insights.
- Identify trends and digital platforms, testing, trying and adapting new approaches. Establish ‘what’s next’ and figure out how it can work (or not) for the organization.
- Identify audience centric approaches and develop messages that carefully consider what motivates and inspires action and applying the right tone and voice to all marketing pieces
- Create, edit and publish content and campaign copy across various social platforms that reflects the Library’s brand, build meaningful connections and encourages participation with the Library.
- Collaborate with the creative team, IT, Web Specialist, Branch Services, and other internal stakeholders to develop compelling marketing campaigns that demonstrate the impact of the Library.
- Lead and manage all marketing and communications projects including assigning, coordinating with internal team and external agencies or vendors outsourced for special projects and ensuring successful project delivery.
- Cultivate relationships with stakeholders in cultural and community sectors to find collaborative marketing initiatives and increase the reach of the Library brand, including community organizations, public sector organizations, museums, cultural centers, and art galleries.




- Lead or support recruitment, onboarding and training of current Marketing and Communications staff members and freelancers as necessary.
- Lead, supervise and support the Content Coordinator position.
- Create collaborative work assignments for the Marketing and Communications team.
- Supports or leads Marketing & Communications-based training for Library staff across various departments
- Other duties as assigned

DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES? Education & Experience:

Graduate degree in Public Relations, Communications or other social science field and (2) two years of related experience

OR

Bachelor’s degree and (4) four years of related experience

OR

Two-years related Post-secondary plus six (6) years of related experience

Specific Knowledge & Technical Experience Requirements:

- Read and write English
- Excellent communication skills
- Critical thinking skills, thinking through challenges or projects and thinking strategically
- Media literacy including assessment of information sources
- Conflict resolution and facilitation skills required
- Experience working with the following tools:
- Content management tools
- Google Analytics
- Social media monitoring and scheduling tools
- Demonstrated experience leading and managing marketing projects, campaigns, social media marketing, and brand management
- Excellent editorial writing ability required
- Demonstrated leadership experience required
- Project management experience required
- Intermediate technology skills required
- Experience working in diverse communities required

ASSETS:

- Fluency in a second language is an asset
