Job Summary

Carney Hill Neighbourhood Centre Society is seeking a reliable and safety-focused Bus Driver to provide transportation for children attending our childcare programs.

The primary responsibility of this position is to safely transport children to and from home, school, childcare, and scheduled outings. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming vehicle, communicating with families and staff, and ensuring transportation schedules and routes run smoothly.

There may also be an opportunity for the successful candidate to take on additional hours supporting children in our childcare program. These hours may include assisting childcare staff with supervision, activities, routines, and outings.

This position may be well suited to someone looking for a part-time driving position with the opportunity to pick up additional hours in a childcare setting.

Key Responsibilities

Transportation

- Safely transport children on scheduled morning and afternoon bus runs and scheduled outings.
- Follow all traffic laws, transportation regulations, and organizational safety procedures.
- Conduct pre-trip inspections and promptly report any vehicle maintenance or safety concerns.
- Ensure children are safely secured and supervised throughout transportation.
- Organize and adjust routes based on enrollment, school schedules, and program needs.
- Communicate professionally and respectfully with parents, guardians, children, and staff.
- Maintain accurate transportation, attendance, and incident records.
- Keep the vehicle clean, organized, and in valuable condition, including regular interior and exterior cleaning.
- Complete grocery pick-ups, recycling runs, water runs, and other transportation-related errands as required.
- Support other transportation needs of the organization as they arise.

Optional Childcare Support The successful candidate may have the opportunity to work additional hours providing support within our childcare program.

Childcare support may include





- Supervising and engaging with children in a safe and nurturing environment.
- Supporting daily routines, activities, and transitions.
- Assisting childcare staff with outings and program activities.
- Helping maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment.
- Communicating with childcare staff and parents about children's needs, behaviours, and any concerns.
- Following all childcare policies, procedures, and safety requirements.

Qualifications & Experience

Required

- Valid Class 4 BC driver's licence.
- Clean driver's abstract.
- Demonstrated safe and responsible driving practices.
- Ability to work scheduled morning and afternoon bus runs.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently.
- Ability to safely perform physical tasks associated with the position.
- Ability to interact respectfully and appropriately with children, families, and staff.

Required Before Employment

- Medical clearance to drive and work in a childcare setting.
- Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check.
- Responsible Adult Certification.
- Three written references.
- Immunization record/TB screening.

Assets

- Previous experience driving children or working in a transportation role.
- Previous experience working with children or in a childcare setting.
- Familiarity with local roads and communities.
- Experience working in a childcare, education, recreation, or community-based setting.

Accountability This position is under the supervision of the Childcare Manager.

Location, Hours, and Compensation

Location: 2579 Victoria Street, Carney Hill Daycare Centre

Schedule: This is a part-time position, with the primary schedule consisting of morning and afternoon bus runs.

Additional hours may be available for individuals interested in providing childcare support. The availability of additional childcare hours will depend on program needs and scheduling.

Wage: Starting at $20.00 per hour, based on training and experience.

Pay: From $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20.0 – 40.0 per week
