Job Title: Business Analyst
Location: Edmonton, AB – Remote, with occasional travel as required
Employment Type: Contract – 11 Months, with possible 12-month extension
Approved Hours: 1,660.25 hours / 36.25 hours per week
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Business Analyst to support technology modernization and service enhancement initiatives. The successful candidate will bridge business and technical teams, lead requirements gathering and process improvement, support complex IT solution delivery, and coordinate stakeholders across multiple teams and vendors.
The role will support initiatives involving secure connectivity, digital services, systems integration, business process modernization, and technology-enabled service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead stakeholder consultations, discovery sessions, workshops, and requirements meetings.
- Gather, analyze, document, and validate business, functional, and technical requirements.
- Develop integrated system and technical design specifications for complex engagements.
- Lead business process development, reviews, re-engineering, and process improvement sessions.
- Support the development and enhancement of IT services and complex software solutions.
- Bridge communication between business stakeholders, vendors, client teams, and technical teams.
- Develop business architecture, system specifications, and database models.
- Support iterative development using model-based processes and modern delivery methodologies.
- Prepare and maintain business requirements, software requirements, functional designs, project plans, schedules, and other project artifacts.
- Develop regular project status reports covering deliverables, timelines, risks, issues, and anticipated effort.
- Identify and escalate risks, issues, options, and recommendations to appropriate stakeholders.
- Facilitate project status meetings and maintain effective communication throughout the project lifecycle.
- Identify user training requirements and support implementation readiness.
- Provide business and technical analysis for complex software solutions across multi-tier environments.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support successful project delivery and business outcomes.
Mandatory Skills & Qualifications
- 18+ years overall BA experience.
- 13+ years developing integrated system and technical design specifications for complex engagements.
- 14+ years facilitating and managing business process development and process re-engineering workshops.
- 15+ years gathering requirements from diverse stakeholders across ministries or departments.
- 15+ years translating business requirements into detailed technical requirements within enterprise IT environments.
- 11+ year working with correctional facility systems, business processes, and requirements gathering.
- 15+ years adapting to new business environments, performing root-cause analysis, resolving issues, improving processes, and working with cross-functional teams.
- 15+ years coordinating with business and technical teams, vendors, and stakeholders to achieve project objectives.
- 15+ years developing project documentation for strategic, business improvement, and IT initiatives.
- 15+ years leading stakeholder engagement activities including workshops, requirements sessions, governance meetings, steering committees, and executive briefings.
- 15+ years working within an Agile development environment.
- 2+ years eliciting, analyzing,
and documenting requirements for AI, Generative AI, intelligent automation, or other data-driven solutions.
Preferred Skills
- Experience supporting correctional, justice, public safety, or other complex public-sector environments.
- Experience with secure connectivity, digital service delivery, and enterprise application modernization.
- Experience with database modeling and system integration.
- Experience working with XML, UML, web services, or related technologies.
- Robust vendor coordination and stakeholder management experience.
- Experience with AI-enabled solutions, intelligent automation, and data-driven initiatives.
- Strong technical documentation and communication skills.
