Casual / Contract Carpenter
Three-Month, Project-Based Opportunity
Cory Christopher Design is seeking an experienced carpenter to support our team on a casual, project-by-project basis over the next three months. This is a temporary contract opportunity with variable hours based on our production and installation schedule. This is not a permanent or full time position.
As an event and seasonal design company, we create custom environments, installations, displays, and décor elements for weddings, events, hospitality properties, and seasonal experiences. The ideal candidate is a practical and creative problem-solver who enjoys producing unique, non-traditional builds and can work efficiently within changing project requirements.
What You’ll Be Working On
- Building walls, backdrops, stages, platforms, shelving, bars, display pieces, planters, and other temporary structures
- Reading and working from measurements, sketches, renderings, and design concepts
- Cutting, assembling, reinforcing, finishing, and modifying wood-based structures
- Assisting with prototypes and determining practical construction solutions
- Repairing, adapting, and refurbishing existing inventory
- Preparing builds for safe transportation and onsite assembly
- Supporting installations and tear downs when required
- Working collaboratively with our design, production, and installation teams
- Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work area

Experience and Requirements
- Professional carpentry, fabrication, scenic construction, cabinetry, millwork, or related experience
- Strong knowledge of woodworking tools, materials, fasteners, and construction methods
- Ability to accurately measure, cut, assemble, and finish custom pieces
- Experience in constructing temporary event, theatrical, retail, film, or display environments is considered an asset
- Ability to safely lift and move materials and completed elements
- Valid driver’s licence and reliable transportation
- Availability for occasional evenings, weekends, installations, or dismantles is considered an asset
- Access to personal hand tools is preferred; project-specific requirements will be discussed in advance
Contract Details
- Temporary, project-based contracts
- Seasonal and variable scheduling based on confirmed project needs
- Hours may fluctuate from week to week
- Contract rate will be determined based on experience, capabilities, and tool requirements
- The successful contractor will submit invoices for approved hours or agreed-upon project work
