Fowler Construction is actively seeking a Quality Control Technician to support our CDMC operations by ensuring compliance with contract specifications, quality standards, and regulatory requirements. This role plays a key part in maintaining and improving the Quality Management Program (QMP) through monitoring, reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives across operations.
Key Duties:
- Monitor and evaluate daily operational performance, preparing reports in collaboration with the Operations Manager and Project Manager.
- Maintain and continuously improve the Quality Management Program (QMP), incorporating field feedback, performance data, and best practices.
- Conduct root cause analysis on non-conformance issues, implementing corrective actions and updating procedures as required.
- Perform and oversee sampling and testing of materials (e.g., sand, salt, asphalt, aggregates, brine) to ensure compliance with applicable standards and specifications.
- Participate in and support progress and performance meetings, tracking key contract metrics such as winter operations, deployment times, and service levels.
- Communicate with Ministry representatives regarding quality inquiries, reporting requirements, and performance issues.
- Provide ongoing updates to Area Supervisors, Operations Manager, and Project Manager on quality performance, risks, and improvement opportunities.
- Support and monitor equipment tracking systems (e.g., GPS/AMDCS), including troubleshooting and calibration of spreader systems.
- Conduct and support bridge and culvert inspections, including documentation of deficiencies and repair recommendations.
- Audit and monitor Health & Safety compliance through SiteDocs and related reporting for incidents, accidents, and spills.
- Deliver guidance and support to field staff to ensure consistent implementation of quality standards and procedures.
- Complete accurate documentation and maintain records in accordance with contractual and regulatory requirements.
- Post-secondary education in Business, Civil Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Experience in quality control, highway maintenance, or construction operations considered an asset.
- Working knowledge of MTO specifications, Book 7, OPS standards, and related regulatory requirements preferred.
- Bridge/Structural Inspection training considered an asset.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (particularly Excel).
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally with field and management teams.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Valid driver’s license required.
Work Conditions:
- Travel to various sites and patrol areas will be required.
- Combination of field and office work, including exposure to various weather conditions.
- Weekend and extended hours may be required to support operational demands.
