Recovery Care is a group of medical clinics that provide comprehensive treatment and support services for individuals living with substance use disorders. Through a patient-centered and harm reduction-focused approach, Recovery Care delivers addiction medicine, primary care, mental health services, infectious disease treatment, and supportive programming designed to improve health outcomes and quality of life.
The West Ottawa Homelessness and Addiction Recovery Treatment (HART) Hub is a low-barrier model of care providing integrated addiction treatment, withdrawal management, stabilization services, and primary care supports to individuals experiencing substance use and housing instability.
Job Overview The Nurse Manager (RPN/RN), West Ottawa HART Hub is responsible for providing on-site clinical leadership, operational nursing support, staff mentorship, and education for the West Ottawa HART Hub nursing team. This role combines direct clinical practice with day-to-day nursing team leadership and oversight.
The Nurse
Manager serves as a clinical resource for nursing staff and works closely with the Recovery Care Nurse Educator/Manager to support site-specific orientation, competency development, workflow implementation, and ongoing education initiatives relevant to the HART Hub workplace.
The Nurse Manager promotes evidence-informed and patient-centered care while supporting clinical excellence, staff development, and operational effectiveness within the West Ottawa HART Hub.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership & Staff Support
- Provide day-to-day team leadership and support for nursing staff at the West Ottawa HART Hub.
- Act as a primary clinical resource for nurses regarding patient assessments, treatment planning, nursing interventions, and clinical decision-making.
- Support escalation and management of clinical concerns, incidents, and patient safety issues.
- Facilitate communication between nursing staff, physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and management.
- WOHH scheduling coordination, staffing support, and workflow optimization.
- Foster a positive and collaborative team culture that supports Recovery Care values and harm reduction principles.
Education & Staff Development
- Coordinate and deliver site-specific nursing orientation and onboarding for new WOHH staff.
- Partner with the Recovery Care Nurse Educator/Manager to ensure educational content, competencies, and policies are implemented locally.
- Provide ongoing mentorship, coaching, and just-in-time teaching for nursing staff.
- Identify site-specific learning needs and coordinate education sessions, skills reviews, and competency refreshers.
- Support student placements, preceptorship activities, and onboarding of new clinical learners.
- Reinforce compliance with organizational policies, medical directives, and nursing standards.
Quality Improvement & Clinical Excellence
- Monitor adherence to clinical policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Conduct chart audits, practice reviews, and quality improvement activities as assigned.
- Support implementation of new programs, workflows, and clinical initiatives within the HART Hub.
- Identify clinical risks, practice gaps, and process improvement opportunities and escalate concerns as appropriate.
- Promote consistent documentation standards and accountability across nursing staff.
- Participate in incident reviews, corrective action planning, and follow-up education.
Clinical Operations
- Maintain competence in all nursing responsibilities performed within the West Ottawa HART Hub.
- Provide direct patient care as operationally required, including:
- Nursing assessments
- Withdrawal management monitoring
- Medication administration
- Harm reduction interventions
- Phlebotomy and laboratory procedures
- ECG completion
- Wound assessment and treatment
- Vaccination and infectious disease programming
- Monitor clinic workflows and patient flow to support efficient service delivery.
- Assist with inventory management, equipment maintenance, and vaccine management processes.
- Support implementation and monitoring of medical directives and clinical protocols.
Program & Service Development
- Collaborate with management to identify service gaps and operational improvement opportunities.
- Assist with implementation and evaluation of new clinical programs within the HART Hub.
- Contribute to development of site-specific clinical resources, tools, and patient education materials.
- Participate in organizational committees, working groups, and quality initiatives as required.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Assist with performance feedback, coaching, and staff support in collaboration with management.
- Support recruitment, interviewing, and onboarding processes for nursing positions as requested.
- Assist with tracking staff competencies, certifications, and mandatory training requirements.
- Complete administrative reporting and documentation as required.
- Other duties consistent with scope of practice and organizational needs.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) as an RPN or RN.
- Minimum 5 years of clinical nursing experience.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in addictions medicine, harm reduction, community health, primary care, or related settings.
- Demonstrated leadership, mentorship, or supervisory experience.
- Strong clinical skills including:
- Phlebotomy
- ECGs
- Medication administration
- Wound care
- Clinical assessment
- Strong understanding of nursing scope of practice, delegation, and medical directives.
- Excellent communication, conflict resolution, organizational, and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently while leading a multidisciplinary team.
- Proficiency with electronic medical records and clinical documentation.
Preferred Assets
- Previous experience in a charge nurse, educator, supervisor, or manager role.
- Experience supporting withdrawal management or addiction medicine programs.
- Experience conducting staff training and orientation.
- Knowledge of quality improvement methodologies.
- Experience working within multidisciplinary community-based care environments
Pay: $40.00-$45.00 per hour
