Job Overview

We are looking for an experienced Dispatcher to join our specialized cross-border trucking operation based out of Napanee, Ontario.

Our fleet specializes in oversized, over-dimensional and specialized freight throughout Canada and the United States, using equipment including flatbeds, step decks, RGNs/lowboys and extendable trailers.

What We’re Looking For

Oversized / over-dimensional transportation experience is required.

Previous experience dispatching oversized freight is strongly preferred, but we will also consider an experienced oversized/heavy-haul driver who has strong knowledge of the industry and is ready to bring that experience into an office/dispatch role.

Responsibilities

- Dispatch and coordinate specialized and oversized loads throughout Canada and the United States
- Match loads with the appropriate truck, trailer and driver based on dimensions, weight and equipment requirements
- Plan efficient routes while considering oversize restrictions, permit requirements, curfews and travel restrictions
- Coordinate provincial/state permits, pilot cars and escorts as required
- Communicate directly with drivers throughout each load from pickup through delivery
- Monitor driver Hours of Service (HOS) and available hours when planning loads
- Coordinate pickup/delivery appointments and communicate with customers, shippers and receivers
- Understand trailer capabilities, axle configurations, deck heights and load dimensions
- Anticipate potential routing, permit, border or scheduling issues before they become problems
- Monitor weather, road closures and other conditions affecting specialized moves
- Work closely with customers to provide updates and resolve operational issues
- Assist with load planning, rate considerations, empty miles and equipment utilization




- Maintain accurate dispatch records and documentation

Experience & Qualifications

- Oversized / over-dimensional transportation experience REQUIRED
- Oversized/heavy-haul dispatch experience preferred
- Experienced oversized/heavy-haul drivers interested in transitioning into dispatch are encouraged to apply
- Strong understanding of specialized trucking equipment and load dimensions
- Knowledge of Canadian and U.S. transportation regulations
- Understanding of Hours of Service and ELD requirements
- Knowledge of oversize permitting, routing and pilot/escort requirements is a strong asset
- Cross-border transportation experience strongly preferred
- Strong geographical knowledge of Canada and the United States
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where plans can change quickly
- Strong communication, organization and problem-solving skills
- Able to communicate effectively with professional drivers, customers, permit offices and other transportation partners

The Person We’re Looking For We want someone who understands trucking and understands oversized freight.

You should be able to look at the dimensions of a load and immediately start thinking about what trailer it needs, whether it will require permits or escorts, potential routing restrictions and whether the driver's available hours make the move realistic.

If your experience comes from behind the wheel rather than behind a dispatch desk, we are interested in talking to you. Real-world oversized driving experience can translate extremely well into specialized dispatch.

This is an in-office position based in Napanee, Ontario.
