Dental Aide (Sterilization Technician), College of Dentistry

Primary Purpose: To assist the College in the provision of clinical dental education to our students, by providing technical dental support work.

Nature of Work: Reporting to the Director, Clinical Affairs, the Dental Aide position works collaboratively with other staff in the College to support the education of our dental students. The successful applicant will be working in an environment of multiple deadlines with competing demands. The work requires a high level of attention to detail in a busy workplace with frequent interruptions.

Tasks are varied with low to moderate complexity. The incumbent will establish effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students and patients, and perform as part of an effective team. The work must be done with a positive and pleasant demeanor, and will be performed with minimal supervision.

Excellent time management is essential to the success of the incumbent.

Typical Duties:

- Washing and sterilization of dental instruments and equipment.
- Disinfection and cleaning of dental operatories and other clinical spaces.
- Monitor inventory levels and re-stocking of clinical supplies in the dental clinic.
- Pre-packing consumables.
- Monitor and report equipment problems and break-downs.
- Assist with testing of equipment as required.
- Assist with sterilization monitor testing.
- Educating and showing students the instrument processing and sterilization area.
- As an integral member of the college of Dentistry the position may be required to assist with other areas of the college as appropriate.

Qualifications

Education: Completion of Grade 12. The ideal candidate will also have a dental sterilization course and training or experience working in a dental clinic.

Experience: One to two years of work experience, preferably in a health care setting or food services industry.

Skills:

- Effective interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal.
- Demonstrated ability to perform in a high-volume work environment with multiple competing priorities.




- Effective organization and time management skills.
- Complete work accurately with attention to detail.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.

This is a permanent seasonal position. The role is laid off for the month of December.

Status: Permanent Seasonal 2 years with the possibility of extension or becoming permanent

Employment Group: CUPE 1975 - Restricted

Shift: Mon-Fri, between 7:30am - 8:00pm, 8 hour day

Full Time Equivalent (FTE): 1.0

Salary: The salary range, based on 1.0 FTE, is $22.74 - 27.69 per hour. The starting salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
