Job Overview The Dietary Aide is responsible for always providing the highest quality of customer service while preparing and serving food to meet the needs of our Residents and expectations of the Kensington Health Centre in accordance with the standards and guidelines of the Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021.
Responsibilities
- Fills in for any absences as required.
- Performs work routines, using various dietary utensils,
supplies and equipment as assigned by the Food Service Supervisor or Food and Nutrition Manager.
- Meet scheduled meal and snack times.
- Follow cleaning schedules and perform cleaning duties as scheduled.
- Assist in arranging portioning desserts, assembling nourishment carts, unloading food items into steam table for meal service, assembling meal trays, loading food carts, and serving meals.
- Setting up the dining room while following floor diagrams and serving residents.
- Washing and storing dishes.
- Ensure the dining room and server work area is clean and kept in a tidy manner at all times.
- All other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrated exceptional customer service skills, willing to go beyond the basics.
- Ability to work under supervision and follow standard procedures.
- Compliance with all health and safety standards.
- Personal and professional integrity, appearance, and demeanor.
- The Dietary Aide stands and walks intermittently throughout the working day, as well as reaches, stoops, bends, lifts, carries, and manipulates various food products, dietary supplies and equipment.
- The Dietary Aide must have an ability to work with chemicals and cleaning agents. Must be able to lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds and withstand exposure to temperature and humidity changes as in entering refrigerated storage areas, working at ovens, ranges, dish washing machines, and at steam tables.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (23 kg) using safe lifting techniques.
Required Knowledge and Experience:
- One year of experience preferred.
- Current Vulnerable Sector Check completed within the past 6 months.
- Ability to read, understand and follow recipe directions, diet orders, resident kardex information, and work assignments.
- This position will show a willingness to perform routine, repetitive tasks with frequent interruptions.
- Numerical ability is necessary for recipe preparation and proper measuring of cleaning agents and chemicals, as well as good motor coordination and manual dexterity are required for various work routines such as preparing food items, serving trays, handling soiled dishes, operating dietary equipment and cleaning work area.
- The Dietary Aide will be able and willing to work flexible hours, such as during an emergency situation and must be patient and tolerant toward staff, residents, and family members.
- Knowledge of Canada’s Food Guide, basic MOHLTC nutritional requirements and infection control.
Required Professional Designation/Certificate:
- The Food Service Worker will be a high school graduate and either graduated from an acceptable Food Service Worker program or enrolled in one.
- Current Food Handler Certificate required.
