Penny’s Pals is looking for a reliable and confident individual to provide part-time and on-call contract coverage at our structured dog daycare and training facility.
This is a great fit for someone who already works independently in the pet care or dog industry and is looking for additional occasional work.
Previous dog training experience is an asset, but not required. We are happy to teach the right person our routines and expectations.
Responsibilities
- Supervising and safely handling dogs of different sizes, breeds and temperaments
- Following our structured daycare routines and safety protocols
- Crate rotations, potty breaks and general dog care
- Assisting with enrichment, treadmills and structured activities
- Maintaining a clean and sanitary facility
- Monitoring canine body language and behaviour
- Communicating any concerns or changes noticed with the dogs
- Providing coverage when additional help is needed
What We’re Looking For
- Confident and comfortable around dogs
- Reliable, responsible and able to work independently
- Good understanding of canine body language, or willingness to learn
- Comfortable handling multiple dogs
- Physically capable of handling dogs of various sizes and completing cleaning duties
- Comfortable working in a structured training environment
- Able to follow established procedures and instructions
- Good communication and attention to detail
- Professional dog handling, daycare, boarding, veterinary, grooming or training experience is an asset
- Canine First Aid is an asset
Contractor Requirements Applicants must have or be able to obtain prior to beginning work:
- Appropriate liability insurance
- Active WorkSafeBC coverage and clearance
- Ability to work as an independent contractor
Proof of insurance and WorkSafeBC coverage will be required before any contracted work begins.
Schedule
This is a part-time/on-call position with no guaranteed hours.
Coverage may be offered for staff illness, vacation, time off, busy periods or when additional support is required.
Availability Tuesday through Friday is particularly helpful.
