HIS266H1-F, L0101 Asian Canadian History

Explores histories of Chinese, South Asians, Filipinos, Japanese, Koreans, and other Asians in Canada from the 19th to the 21st century through Asian Canadians' voices. Students will investigate primary sources and scholars' debates about interpreting Asian experiences in Canada. Topics may include cultural identities, family, inter-generational experiences, communities, multiculturalism, diasporas, transnationalism, migrations, food, anti-Asian stereotypes, racism, past controversies, and how Asian Canadian histories are remembered today.

Minimum qualifications:

Master of Arts in History or related field required. Mastery of the subject area as related to the course description above required.

Preferred qualifications:

PhD in History preferred. Demonstrated evidence of superior undergraduate teaching preferred. Previous experience teaching a similar course is highly desirable.

Description of duties:

Developing syllabus; course preparation; Teaching one two-hour classes weekly, in-person lectures; Marking; Supervision of TA(s) in accordance with the CUPE 3902 Unit 1 Collective Agreement; Conducting scheduled office hours (1 hour/week)

Duties of this position shall be performed at the campus on which the position is located.

Sessional Dates of Appointment: September 1, 2026 to December 31, 2026

Estimated Course Enrolment: 45 students

Estimate of TA Support: 146 hours





Schedule: Thursday 11:00-13:00 In-person lectures.

Rate of Pay:

H1 Courses

Sessional Lecturer I: $9,997.48

Sessional Lecturer I, Long term: $10,699.22

Sessional Lecturer II: $10,699.22

Sessional Lecturer II, Long term: $10,953.96

Sessional Lecturer III: $10,953.96

Sessional Lecturer III, Long term: $11,228.90

Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.
