Garrett Contracting Ltd. is looking for an experienced Excavator Operator with a valid Class 3 driver’s licence to join our Calgary-area excavation team.
This is a hands-on field position for someone who is confident operating excavators and other heavy and smaller equipment, and can also drive a dump truck when required.
We need someone who knows how to operate, takes care of equipment, shows up reliably and works well with the rest of the crew.
The right person understands that on a smaller excavation team, the job may involve running an excavator one day, driving a truck when needed, operating another piece of equipment, or helping the crew get the job finished.
Duties
- Operate excavators safely, efficiently and accurately on urban excavation projects
- Perform excavation, grading, backfilling and general earthworks
- Operate other heavy equipment as required, which may include skid steer, loader, backhoe and packer
- Drive company dump truck to transport materials and equipment when required
- Complete daily equipment inspections and report maintenance or repair concerns
- Maintain equipment and work areas in a clean and professional condition
- Work closely with supervisors, operators and ground crews
- Assist with general site activities when required
- Follow company and site-specific safety procedures
- Work safely around utilities, structures, workers and other equipment
Qualifications
- Valid Alberta Class 3 driver’s licence
- Strong excavator operating experience
- Minimum 5 years of relevant heavy equipment operating experience
- Minimum 5 years of truck-driving experience, preferably Dump Truck
- Experience working on excavation and earthworks projects
- Clean driver’s abstract
- Ability to safely operate equipment in active construction environments
- Reliable and able to work independently as well as part of a crew
- Strong understanding of equipment inspections and basic equipment care
- Safety-conscious with good judgement around people, equipment and underground services.
Pay: $35.00-$40.00 per hour Expected hours: 30.0 – 50.0 per week
