Overview
Au Château is seeking an experienced and proactive Finance Manager to support the strategic and operational financial functions of our organization. Reporting to the Director of Finance, you will oversee the day-to-day financial operations across our Long-Term Care Home, Life Lease Housing, and the Community Support Services (CSS) Program.
The Finance
Manager will provide direct leadership, guidance, and mentorship to the Finance team, ensuring accurate financial reporting, effective processes, strong internal controls, and exceptional service to internal and external stakeholders.
Au Château is embarking on a full transformation of its finance department, modernizing systems, strengthening processes, and building a resilient, high-performing team. Working closely with the Director of Finance, the Finance Manager will play a key role in implementing departmental improvements, driving operational excellence, and developing the capabilities of the Finance team. This position is ideal for a collaborative and hands-on finance leader who enjoys balancing people leadership with financial stewardship and continuous improvement.
Based in Sturgeon Falls, Ontario (West Nipissing), this role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact within a respected and community-focused organization.
Duties
- Oversee the accurate and timely processing of bi-weekly payroll for all Home staff, in compliance with the collective agreement(s), the Employment Standards Act, and CRA requirements.
- Ensure all statutory remittances, CRA source deductions, HST, EHT, WSIB, and pension/benefit contributions, are calculated, reconciled, and remitted accurately and on time.
- Supervise and support the Payroll Clerks in resolving payroll discrepancies, processing new hires, terminations, and leaves, and maintaining accurate employee records.
- Reconcile payroll-related general ledger accounts, benefit and pension remittance statements, and statutory holiday/vacation accruals on a monthly basis.
- Supervise the Financial Accountant and other accounting staff in the preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end close procedures for the Home.
- Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations, including bank reconciliations, prepaid and accrual schedules, and inter-entity chargebacks.
- Support the Director of Finance in preparing monthly and quarterly financial reports, variance analysis, and supporting schedules.
- Prepare working papers, schedules, and supporting documentation for the annual audit, as requested by the Director of Finance and external auditors.
- Prepare and submit required financial, statistical,
and funding reports to the Ministry of Long-Term Care and Ontario Health within prescribed timelines, including level-of-care and case-mix related submissions.
- Coordinate the timely completion of the Home's Annual Report and other statutory or funder-required filings, in partnership with the Director of Finance.
- Supervise, coach, and develop the Payroll Clerk, Financial Accountant, and other finance staff, setting clear expectations and supporting professional growth.
- Provide day-to-day guidance and coverage across the finance team, ensuring continuity of payroll and accounting operations during absences.
- Participate in the recruitment, onboarding, and performance management of finance and payroll staff, in consultation with the Director of Finance.
- Use accounting/ERP software, GoldCare, payroll systems, and Microsoft Excel (including PivotTables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and macros) to streamline reconciliations and recurring reports.
- Act as a backup to the Director of Finance on select financial matters as required.
- Develop and update, within area of responsibility, departmental procedures and job descriptions to reflect current standards and legislative requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Finance.

- The Financial Manager role combines strategic leadership with hands-on financial management.
- Candidates should be aware of the following working conditions:
- Physical environment: Primarily sedentary office work, with occasional walking between departments and Au Château sites/programs
- Schedule: Standard business hours, Monday to Friday, with extended hours required during month-end close, year-end audit, budget preparation, and Board reporting cycles
- Work setting: Office environment located within a long-term care setting, with occasional exposure to a health care environment and its associated infection control requirements
- Deadlines & pressure: Frequent, non-negotiable government and funder reporting deadlines requiring the ability to prioritize competing demands under pressure
- Equipment use: Extensive use of computer workstations, accounting/ERP software, spreadsheet applications (Excel), and standard office equipment
- Confidentiality: Regular access to sensitive financial, employee, and resident information requiring strict adherence to confidentiality and privacy standards
- Supervision:
Works under the general direction of the Administrator with a high degree of autonomy and independent judgment; supervises the Financial Accountant and accounting/payroll staff
- Travel: Occasional local travel between Au Château sites/programs and attendance at external meetings, training, or conferences may be required
- Required Qualifications
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Payroll Administration, or a related field. A bachelor's degree is considered an asset. An equivalent combination of education, professional certifications, and progressively responsible experience in finance, accounting, payroll, or administration will be considered
- Minimum three (3) years of progressive experience in accounting, payroll, finance or administration. Experience providing leadership, coordinating staff, or supervising employees is preferred. Experience in long-term care, health care, or the broader non-profit sector is considered an asset.
- Working knowledge of long-term care home accounting, Public Sector Accounting Board (PSAB) standards, and Ministry of Long-Term Care / Ontario Health atHome reporting requirements
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH, PivotTables, Power Query, and macros/VBA
- Bilingual in English and French — verbal and written proficiency is an asset
- A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) prior to hire
- Assets / Preferred
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation, or actively working towards, is an asset; a Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) or Payroll Leadership Professional (PLP) designation is an asset.
- Experience in long-term care, health care, or the broader public sector
- Familiarity with GoldCare and other accounting/ERP, payroll, and government financial reporting portals
- Working knowledge of the Fixing Long-Term Care Act, Employment Standards Act, and HST/CRA remittance requirements
