QUALIFICATIONS

Educational Requirements

Successful completion of a four-year honours bachelor's degree (or equivalent) with a minimum 75% average. The bachelor's degree will normally be in the biological sciences, behavioural health, health, public health, or social sciences

Experiential Qualifications

- Prior experience as a TA, RA, or lab/instructional support assistant, preferably in a course involving GIS, spatial analysis, or quantitative health methods.

- Demonstrated experience marking/grading technical assignments against a rubric — this course has a heavy marking load: 8 practicals (6% each), weekly quizzes, individual project proposal and final presentations, and a final test.

- Experience supporting students in a computer lab setting, troubleshooting software, and explaining hands-on technical workflows step by step.

- Solid written and verbal communication skills for answering student questions (via UWaterloo email / LEARN), giving feedback,



and supporting weekly lab/practical sessions.

- Ability to handle administrative tasks consistently: returning feedback on assignments via LEARN and applying the course's late/grace-day penalty policy.

Course Specific Requirements
- Proficiency in ArcGIS Pro and GeoDa — the two required software packages — including making disease maps, choropleth/thematic mapping, and exploratory spatial data analysis.

- Working knowledge of disease mapping and spatial epidemiology concepts: data types/sources for disease mapping, detecting spatial clustering of disease, and interpreting associations between environmental/socioeconomic factors and disease clusters.

- Availability to attend the lab sessions in person to provide hands-on practical support.

- Familiarity with UW LEARN for returning grades and managing the grade book.

Compensation: $51.53 / hour, plus 4% vacation pay
