About the Role

We're hiring compassionate, adaptable caregivers to join a small, established home care team supporting a young man with Duchenne muscular dystrophy who lives at home with his mother. This is client-directed care: you'll be working with him and taking direction from him on how he likes things done. We're looking for people who genuinely enjoy building rapport, take initiative, and are comfortable following the client's lead.

What You'll Be Doing

- Tube feeding: Administering syringe feeds - 3 to 4 times/day, requiring your full attention throughout.
- Medication management & administration.
- Respiratory support: Assisting with BiPAP (on/off, adjustments), LVR use, and cough-assist for secretion clearance; suctioning as needed. Very easy to learn.
- Mobility & positioning: Assisting with an electric wheelchair (controller/tilter adjustments, cushion repositioning), transfers, and regular repositioning in bed using ceiling lifts and slings.
- Toileting/bowel care: Elimination support using a urinal device and commode, and assistance with a daily bowel routine.
- Daily hygiene care: Showering (hair and body), brushing teeth, brushing hair, shaving, trimming nails, cleaning ears, cleaning g-tube site, and dressing/undressing.
- Household responsibilities: Our caregivers are responsible for cleaning up after both the client and themselves — this includes laundry, dishes, vacuuming, mopping, and cleaning the bathroom. In general, if something (a space, a piece of equipment, an item) gets dirty, it's a team effort to clean it.
- Overnight care (for some shifts): Primarily repositioning and toileting, with occasional cough-assist/suctioning support.



You'll have your own private bedroom and bed for the night, with an intercom system connecting you to the client — so you're able to rest between call-ins rather than staying awake through the whole shift.
- Communication & tech support: Helping with device tasks that voice-control software can't handle (iPhone, Mac, smart home).

What We're Looking For

- Prior caregiving, HCA, or personal support experience is an asset, but attitude matters more than credentials.
- We're open to training the right person, even with very limited experience. If you seem like a genuine fit — reliable, respectful, a good communicator — we're happy to train you thoroughly, so you can learn and succeed and so we can be confident in your ability to handle all shifts and all aspects of care.
- Comfortable taking direction from the client on his own care — this is his home and his body.
- Clear, proactive communicator — someone who flags issues early and follows through without needing to be chased. We really value explicit communication and honesty.
- Calm and steady with hands-on physical care (transfers, positioning, tube feeding) and comfortable with equipment training.
- Patient, respectful, and nonjudgmental; no rigid compliance mindset.
- Reliable and punctual, above almost everything else. Feeds, BiPAP, and repositioning run on a schedule,



and a missed or late shift falls directly on your teammates and on the client. We need people we can count on to show up, communicate early if something comes up, and follow through.
- A true team player — this is a small, tight-knit team that leans on each other constantly, not a set of people independently rotating through shifts. We support the client together, and we support each other: covering gaps, communicating handoffs clearly, and treating teammates' time with the same respect as the client's care.
- Comfortable working in a home environment with a small, consistent core team plus occasional casual/relief staff.

Schedule & Compensation

- We are currently hiring for one full-time position.
- Pay range: $19.50–$22.50/hour, with a separate overnight rate.
- Applicants must be comfortable working weekdays, weekends, and overnight shifts.
- Our goal is to provide a fixed weekly schedule that only slightly varies week to week — not a constantly shifting rotation.

Home Environment We have two small dogs in the home. They're both friendly, but you will need to let them outside and back in as part of the role — if you have a fear of dogs, this may prove difficult.
