Position Summary
Baymag is seeking an experienced HSEM Advisor to support and strengthen our integrated Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality Management Systems. This position is based in Exshaw, Alberta, and provides support across Baymag’s operations, including our Exshaw processing plant, our magnesite mining operation near Radium Hot Springs, British Columbia, and our Calgary corporate office. The HSEM Advisor plays a key role in promoting a culture of safety, compliance, accountability, and continuous improvement while supporting operational excellence throughout the organization.
Reporting to the Health, Safety, Environment and Management Systems Manager, this position provides technical expertise, coaching, and field support to employees, contractors, and leaders across multiple locations. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with teams throughout the organization to identify risks, improve processes, support regulatory and management system compliance, and drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance safety, environmental performance, quality, and operational effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and continuously improve Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality Management Systems.
- Contribute to HSEM organizational change initiatives and continuous improvement projects.
- Promote compliance with legislative, regulatory, certification, and company requirements.
- Conduct incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action tracking.
- Coordinate COR certification activities, audits, inspections, and regulatory reviews.
- Perform workplace inspections, hazard assessments, risk assessments, and field observations.
- Assist with environmental compliance activities, including monitoring, reporting,
and inspections.
- Support industrial hygiene programs through exposure monitoring coordination, hazard identification, and control measures.
- Develop and deliver HSEM training, orientation, and competency verification programs.
- Maintain HSEM records, performance metrics, documentation, and compliance reports.
- Partner with operational teams to identify risks, resolve issues, and improve health, safety, environmental, and quality performance.
- Coordinate and support monthly HSEM engagement activities, performance reporting, and corrective action tracking.
Qualifications
- Occupational Health and Safety Diploma or related post-secondary education.
- Professional designation or certification such as CRSP, CRST, NCSO, or equivalent.
- Minimum 5 years of HSEM experience within mining, manufacturing, industrial, or related operations.
- Working knowledge of Alberta and British Columbia occupational health and safety, environmental, and mining legislation.
- Experience supporting integrated management systems, including COR, ISO 9001, food safety, and regulatory compliance programs.
- Experience conducting incident investigations, workplace inspections, risk assessments, and corrective action management.
- Knowledge of industrial hygiene principles, monitoring programs, occupational health risks, and control measures.
- Experience supporting environmental compliance, regulatory reporting, inspections, and monitoring programs.
- Working knowledge of injury prevention, disability management, and return-to-work programs.
- Experience developing and delivering HSEM training, orientation, and competency programs.
- Solid communication, facilitation, stakeholder engagement, analytical,
and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, SAP, and HSEM management systems.
- Ability to travel up to 10% of the time to company locations, training, industry events, and other business requirements.
