Job Summary The Fundy Harbour Group is a locally owned and family run company making a difference in the landscape of Uptown Saint John. To assist with our growth and current needs we are seeking an Intermediate Buyer responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing goods and services required by the Fundy Harbour Group. This role ensures materials are acquired at the best value while meeting quality, delivery, and operational requirements.
The Buyer will report to the Vice-President of Operations and will work closely with suppliers, internal stakeholders, and inventory teams to maintain an efficient and cost-effective supply chain.
Key Responsibilities
- Source and evaluate suppliers based on price, quality, service, and delivery performance.
- Prepare and issue purchase orders and ensure timely order processing.
- Negotiate pricing, terms, contracts, and supply agreements.
- Monitor inventory levels and coordinate replenishment activities.
- Manage supplier relationships and resolve issues related to delivery, quality, and performance.
- Track purchase orders and expedite deliveries when necessary.
- Analyze purchasing data and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Ensure compliance with company procurement policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with operations, finance, and construction teams to meet business requirements.
- Maintain accurate purchasing records and supplier documentation.
- Conduct market research to identify new suppliers and industry trends.
Additional Responsibilities
- Maintain vendor master records and ensure supplier information remains accurate, complete and consistent across portfolio.
- Coordinate vendor onboarding, including credit applications, insurance certificates, tax documentation, and supporting records.
- Review supplier payment terms and identify opportunities to improve working capital and cash flow.
- Assist in the implementation, administration, and continuous improvement of purchasing systems and procurement software.
- Support the development and maintenance of purchasing policies, approval workflows, and purchasing controls.
- Monitor compliance with established purchasing procedures and approval requirements.
- Maintain supplier contracts and key vendor documentation.
- Work closely with Finance to support vendor setup, payment terms management, and purchasing-related reporting.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Procurement, or a related field (preferred).
- 3–7 years of purchasing, procurement, or supply chain experience.
- Strong negotiation and vendor management skills.
- Experience with ERP, MRP, or procurement systems.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
- Knowledge of inventory management and supply chain practices.
- SCMP certification considered an asset.
