Job Summary
Nightingale is seeking an experienced, organized, and hands-on Kitchen Manager to oversee daily kitchen operations and support consistent food quality, efficient service, and a well-organized kitchen environment. This role will lead kitchen staff, coordinate food preparation, manage inventory and food costs, and help ensure smooth operations during busy service periods.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily kitchen preparation, production, and service operations
- Lead, supervise, train, and motivate kitchen staff
- Organize daily prep lists and kitchen production priorities
- Ensure food is prepared according to recipes, standards, and portion guidelines
- Maintain consistent food quality, flavor, presentation, and freshness
- Monitor kitchen workflow and improve service efficiency
- Manage inventory levels and assist with ordering food and kitchen supplies
- Monitor food costs, portion sizes, waste, and product usage
- Ensure proper food storage, labeling, rotation, and temperature control
- Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient kitchen
- Follow and enforce food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety procedures
- Coordinate effectively with front-of-house staff and restaurant management
- Monitor employee performance and provide coaching and feedback
- Assist with scheduling, shift coverage, and daily staffing needs
- Ensure kitchen equipment and workstations are properly maintained
- Identify and resolve kitchen operational issues promptly
Requirements
- Previous experience as a Kitchen Manager, Sous Chef, Chef, or Kitchen Supervisor
- Strong knowledge of skilled kitchen operations and food preparation
- Proven ability to lead, train, and motivate kitchen staff
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation procedures
- Experience with inventory management and food cost control
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced restaurant environment
Preferred Skills
- Experience in a full-service restaurant
- Strong understanding of kitchen workflow and service coordination
- Experience with inventory, purchasing, and supplier communication
- Knowledge of recipe execution and quality control
- Staff scheduling and team development experience
- Strong food cost and waste management skills
- Ability to remain organized during busy service periods
