Job Overview The Lead Hand is responsible for rig floor operations and overhead setup as well as equipment setup and core processing. This is a working lead role.
Responsibilities
- Conduct risk assessments and PPE inspections before work begins
- Safely strap, unstrap, and secure loads; hook and uncouple trailers
- Set up and lay out field equipment per program requirements
- Spot trucks using proper directional signals
- Handle steam hoses and pipe drifting procedures safely
- Inspect all power and hand tools prior to use
- Mark core tubes to required specifications; inspect inner core tubes
- Clean, reassemble, and maintain core tubes and shoes
- Maintain awareness of dangerous and no-go zones during wireline retrieval
- Understand rig crew procedures during connections
- Practice proper lifting and handling techniques for core tubes
- Maintain housekeeping pace with core marking and packaging workflows
- Complete post-coring cleanup and equipment tear-down
- Maintain awareness of safe work zones around the core truck and wireline unit
- Accurately complete field paperwork
- Assemble and set up downhole tools correctly per program requirements
- Lead, direct, coordinate, and mentor Core Hand(s) on shift
- Lead tailgate meetings and safety discussions when applicable
- Manage coring timelines to keep pace with the rig program
- Execute weekly truck schedule and maintain maintenance logs
- Comfortable working on and around the rig floor and lease — understands procedures and danger zones
- Know what equipment is needed on the rig floor and when
- Run rig floor procedures for coring operations
- Safely rig in wireline sheaves and lay down lines on the rig floor
- Execute protected rig-out procedures for wireline sheaves and rig floor equipment
What We're Looking For
● Previous coring or rig work required - minimum 2 seasons preferred
● Demonstrated ability to lead others
● Comfortable on and around the rig floor and lease; familiar with rig floor safety protocols
● Mechanically capable; able to inspect, troubleshoot, and maintain field equipment
● H2S Alive, First Aid, and applicable safety tickets required
● Valid driver's licence required; Class 1 licence is a bonus and comes with a pay premium
