Aura Advanced Technologies Inc. is an established Canadian technology company now expanding into advanced robotics and intelligent healthcare systems through its Aura Robotics initiative.

We are developing Haven™, a next-generation resident-assist robotics platform designed to support mobility, safety, caregiver workflows, and independent living in long-term care, assisted living, and future home-care environments.

Our work combines robotics, mechatronics, autonomous navigation, embedded systems, machine vision, sensors, safety controls, secure communications, and AI into a single integrated healthcare-support platform.

Unlike an early-stage concept company, Aura brings decades of technology infrastructure experience, established operations, engineering resources, private data-center capabilities, and the ability to fund and develop physical prototypes.

We are now building the Alpha-0 prototype and assembling a small, highly capable engineering team to take Haven from detailed architecture through fabrication, testing, validation, and future commercialization.

Overview

We are seeking a senior, hands-on Lead Robotics & Mechatronics Engineer to help bring Haven™, our resident-assist robotics platform, from detailed engineering into a working Alpha-0 prototype.

This is an early core-team role with substantial technical ownership. Haven already has a developed system architecture, requirements, risk analyses, mechanical and electrical design concepts, safety logic, component selections, prototype plans, supporting engineering documentation, and a filed U.S. patent application covering key aspects of the integrated platform.

The role sits at the intersection of mechanical design, 24/48 V electrical systems, motors and brakes, embedded controls, sensors, safety systems, autonomous robotics, and hands-on prototype development. You will be responsible for validating the existing engineering direction, identifying and correcting issues, creating buildable detail, coordinating fabrication and suppliers, and leading subsystem and integrated prototype testing.

This is not a software-only or management-only position. We are looking for someone who is comfortable working directly in CAD, reviewing schematics, selecting and integrating motors, batteries, brakes, sensors and safety hardware, working with machinists and OEM application engineers, and troubleshooting real hardware at the bench.

You will work directly with Aura’s founder and project lead, with specialist electrical, functional-safety, human-factors, and manufacturing resources brought in as required. Because the robotics team is being built now, the successful candidate will have significant influence over how Haven is engineered, prototyped, tested, and ultimately prepared for commercialization.

The objective is straightforward: build, test, refine, and validate a safe, robust resident-assist robotic platform for long-term care, assisted living, and future home-care applications.

Duties

- Take technical ownership of Haven’s Alpha-0 prototype development, working from the existing system architecture, requirements, risk analyses,



and engineering design package.
- Review, validate, and refine mechanical, electrical, controls, sensing, and safety design decisions as the prototype moves from engineering concept into physical hardware.
- Create and maintain detailed 3D CAD assemblies, mechanical drawings, tolerance requirements, service interfaces, and fabrication-ready documentation.
- Design and integrate chassis structures, wheel and drivetrain assemblies, shafts, bearings, motors, gearboxes, brakes, compliant mechanisms, battery packaging, guards, and service-access features.
- Integrate 24/48 VDC power systems, batteries, DC/DC conversion, motor controllers, contactors, fuses, sensors, safety hardware, CAN/CAN-FD communications, and wiring harnesses.
- Develop or support embedded and controls functionality for sensor acquisition, motor control, system state logic, diagnostics, data logging, and prototype commissioning.
- Build and commission subsystem test benches before full-robot integration, including drivetrain, braking, compliant-support, sensing, and power-system testing.
- Troubleshoot multidisciplinary prototype issues involving mechanics, electronics, controls, electrical noise, sensor behaviour, thermal performance, fit, vibration, and low-speed motion.
- Work directly with machinists, fabricators, component manufacturers, OEM application engineers, and specialist safety/electrical resources.
- Support functional-safety design and validation, including fail-safe braking, E-stop behaviour, safety PLC integration, scanner interfaces, interlocks, and fault-response testing.
- Maintain clear engineering documentation, test records, configuration control, design changes, as-built information, and verification evidence.
- Help transition the Alpha-0 prototype toward future design refinement, production engineering, regulatory review, and commercialization.

Requirements

- 8+ years of hands-on experience in robotics, mechatronics, autonomous systems, advanced machinery, medical devices, or complex electromechanical product development.
- Demonstrated experience personally taking a physical machine, robot, vehicle, or complex prototype from design through assembly, integration, commissioning, and testing.
- Strong mechanical design capability, including mechanisms, shafts, bearings, motors, gearboxes, brakes, belts, chassis structures, tolerances, serviceability, and design for fabrication.
- Strong proficiency in 3D CAD such as SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo, Onshape, or equivalent, with the ability to create production-quality assemblies and fabrication drawings.
- Practical experience with 24/48 VDC electrical systems, batteries, DC/DC conversion, motor controllers, contactors, fuses, sensors, wiring harnesses, grounding,



and electrical troubleshooting.
- Experience integrating electric motors, gearboxes, encoders, brakes, and motion-control hardware into real machines.
- Working knowledge of embedded and controls systems using C/C++ and/or Python, including state machines, CAN/CAN-FD, sensor integration, data logging, and hardware debugging.
- Experience using engineering test equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, current probes, force/load instrumentation, and other diagnostic tools.
- Familiarity with machinery or robotics safety systems including E-stops, safety relays or PLCs, scanners, fail-safe braking, interlocks, and fault-response design.
- Experience working directly with machinists, fabricators, component manufacturers, and OEM application engineers.
- Ability to review an existing multidisciplinary engineering architecture, identify technical risks, challenge assumptions constructively, and recommend evidence-based improvements.
- Strong troubleshooting and root-cause-analysis skills across mechanical, electrical, and controls systems.
- Ability to create clear technical documentation, test procedures, drawings, specifications, and engineering-change records.
- Comfortable working in a hands-on prototype workplace where design, fabrication, testing, and iteration happen quickly.

Strong Assets

- Experience with AMRs/AGVs, service robots, autonomous vehicles, powered mobility, rehabilitation equipment, medical robotics, or other human-interactive machines.
- Experience with Pilz, SICK, ISO 13849, ISO 13482, IEC 61508, or other functional/machinery safety systems.
- Experience with ROS or ROS 2, LiDAR, depth cameras, SLAM, autonomous navigation, and perception systems.
- Experience with strain gauges, load cells, sensor calibration, PCB bring-up, or EMC troubleshooting.
- Experience with FEA tools such as ANSYS, SolidWorks Simulation, or equivalent.
- Experience working in a regulated or design-controlled product-development environment.
- P.Eng. designation or eligibility in Canada is an asset, but not required.

What Matters Most We are less interested in a long list of software packages than in what you have actually built. The strongest candidates will be able to describe specific machines or robotic systems they personally designed, integrated, commissioned, and debugged.
