SW Event Technology

Kelowna

SW Event Technology is looking for an experienced Video Department Head to join our team at our head office in Kelowna, BC.

This is a senior, hands-on technical leadership position for someone who understands live event video from both an operational and departmental perspective. The role is primarily based in the BC Interior, while also supporting larger-scale productions across Canada and into the United States.

The successful candidate will spend time in the field leading and supporting video systems on live events, while also working from our Kelowna office to help oversee the Video Department, establish technical standards, advise on equipment and technology, support project planning, and improve how we deliver video services across the company.

We are looking for someone who can be the technical leader of the department—not simply operate equipment.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead the technical direction and day-to-day operations of the Video Department.
- Act as a senior video technician and technical lead on live events and larger productions.
- Design, configure, install, operate and troubleshoot professional video systems.
- Set up and operate LED video walls, projection systems, video switchers, broadcast cameras and related equipment.
- Understand and manage video signal flow and distribution across complex event environments.
- Advise project managers, sales teams and operations staff on video system design, equipment selection and technical requirements.
- Review event specifications, drawings and client requirements and recommend appropriate video solutions.
- Help establish and maintain departmental standards, workflows, documentation and best practices.
- Support the preparation, testing and quality control of video equipment before it leaves the warehouse.
- Provide technical leadership, training and mentorship to video technicians and other team members.

- Assist with scheduling and identifying appropriate technical resources for upcoming productions.
- Stay current with emerging video, LED, broadcast, processing and signal-distribution technologies.
- Provide input into capital purchases and the future equipment needs of the Video Department.
- Work collaboratively with Audio, Lighting, Staging, Power, Broadcast and Operations departments to deliver integrated event solutions.
- Maintain a high standard of safety, organization and professionalism both in the warehouse and on event sites.
- Travel as required for major events throughout British Columbia, across Canada and into the United States.

Qualifications & Experience
- 5+ years of professional experience in the live events, AV or production industry, with significant experience in video.
- Strong understanding of current video technologies, signal distribution and system design.
- Strong understanding of video resolutions, aspect ratios, frame rates, scaling, conversion and signal formats.
- Experience operating qualified video switchers and broadcast/event cameras.
- Demonstrated experience setting up, configuring and troubleshooting LED video walls.
- Strong experience with professional projection systems, including projector setup, alignment and signal routing.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex video systems quickly in live production environments.
- Strong understanding of video signal flow and the ability to diagnose problems from source through processing and display.
- Experience leading crews or providing technical direction on live events.

- Strong organizational, communication and problem-solving skills.
- Comfortable balancing office-based departmental responsibilities with hands-on field work.
- Ability and willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, based on event schedules.
- Ability and willingness to travel throughout Canada and into the United States.
- Valid driver's licence and ability to meet applicable requirements for cross-border travel.

What We're Looking For The right person for this role is someone who takes ownership of their department. You should be equally comfortable standing behind a switcher during a major show, troubleshooting an LED wall on site, reviewing an upcoming project's technical requirements with a project manager, or sitting down with management to discuss what equipment and technology the department should invest in next.

You will be expected to bring technical expertise, leadership and practical field experience to the role while helping SW continue to strengthen and expand its video capabilities.
