Mechanical Foreman – Commercial Pool Construction

Location: Calgary, Alberta, with travel to project sites

Employment Type: Full-time

Compensation: Competitive salary or hourly compensation based on experience

About Master Pools

Master Pools specializes in the construction and renovation of commercial and high-end aquatic facilities throughout Alberta. Our projects include swimming pools, hot tubs, cold plunges, water features and associated mechanical water-treatment systems.

We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Foreman to lead field installations and help deliver complex pool projects safely, efficiently and to a high standard of workmanship.

The Position The Mechanical Foreman will oversee day-to-day mechanical construction activities on our project sites. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for coordinating crews, planning installations, reviewing drawings and ensuring that pool piping and equipment systems are installed correctly.

The successful candidate will be comfortable working with construction drawings, directing tradespeople and solving field coordination issues. Previous swimming-pool experience is valuable but not required; training in aquatic systems will be provided to a strong candidate with relevant mechanical or commercial plumbing experience.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead and supervise field crews performing commercial pool mechanical installations.
- Plan daily and weekly work activities based on project schedules, drawings and site conditions.
- Install and oversee the installation of PVC, CPVC and other mechanical piping systems.
- Coordinate the installation of pumps, filters, heat exchangers, chemical-treatment equipment, valves, flowmeters and related pool equipment.
- Review mechanical drawings, pool plans, shop drawings and equipment layouts.
- Lay out piping and equipment installations before work begins.
- Coordinate with general contractors, site superintendents, electricians, controls contractors and other trades.

- Identify drawing conflicts, missing information and constructability concerns.
- Track labour, materials, equipment needs and work progress.
- Confirm material requirements and communicate upcoming purchasing needs.
- Conduct quality-control inspections and ensure completed work meets project requirements.
- Enforce company safety procedures and site-specific safety requirements.
- Participate in system pressure testing, flushing, startup and commissioning.
- Maintain organized work areas, mechanical rooms and company tools.
- Complete daily reports, time records, safety documentation and other required project paperwork.
- Mentor apprentices and help develop the technical abilities of the field team.
- Represent Master Pools professionally when dealing with clients, consultants and project partners.

Qualifications
- Journeyperson Plumber, Steamfitter/Pipefitter or equivalent mechanical construction experience is preferred.
- Previous experience supervising commercial plumbing, mechanical or process-piping installations.
- Strong working knowledge of piping installation, supports, valves, pumps and mechanical equipment.
- Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications and equipment documentation.
- Experience planning work and coordinating labour, materials and subcontractors.
- Strong leadership, communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to maintain high standards while working within project schedules and budgets.
- Comfortable using email, mobile devices and basic digital construction documentation.
- Valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record.

- Willingness to travel and work outside Calgary when required.
- Current safety certifications are an asset.

Assets
- Experience with commercial swimming pools, water-treatment facilities or process-piping systems.
- Experience installing large-diameter PVC or CPVC piping.
- Knowledge of pool circulation, filtration, heating and chemical-control systems.
- Experience with equipment startup, testing and commissioning.
- First Aid, CSTS, WHMIS, fall-protection or aerial-work-platform certification.
- Cross-connection control or backflow-prevention certification.

What We’re Looking For We are looking for someone who takes ownership of their projects and leads by example. The right person will be organized, dependable and willing to work alongside the crew when required. They should be able to anticipate upcoming work, communicate problems early and maintain a high standard of workmanship in demanding construction environments.

Commercial pool construction is specialized work involving mechanical, structural, electrical and water-treatment systems. This position is a good opportunity for an experienced tradesperson who wants to expand their technical knowledge and take a leading role in unique, high-profile projects.

- Company vehicle or vehicle allowance, depending on the position arrangement.
- Company phone or phone allowance.
- Specialized training in commercial pool systems and equipment.
