Our client, a growing Winnipeg-based manufacturing organization, is seeking an experienced Mechanical Test Engineer to join its Engineering team.
In this hands-on role, you will serve as the bridge between engineering design and real-world product performance. You’ll lead product testing and validation activities, build prototypes and test fixtures, analyze performance data, investigate failures, and help ensure mechanical and automotive systems meet rigorous standards for quality, reliability, and durability.
You will also oversee the day-to-day operation of the test lab, coordinating prototype builds and testing activities to ensure work is effectively planned, prioritized, documented, and completed.
Working closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and New Product Introduction teams, you’ll solve complex technical challenges and provide the testing insights needed to confidently move products from concept through production.

What You’ll Do
- Own product verification and validation testing from initial planning through execution, analysis, and final reporting.
- Develop comprehensive test plans, procedures, fixtures, setups, protocols, and acceptance criteria.
- Build, modify, evaluate, and troubleshoot prototypes and pre-production units.
- Use CNC equipment, 3D printing, fabrication tools, and other prototyping technologies to create and modify test components, fixtures, and prototypes.
- Operate specialized testing equipment, including environmental and UV chambers, optical testing equipment, and electromechanical and electropneumatic test systems.
- Analyze test data, investigate failures, identify root causes, and translate findings into clear technical recommendations.
- Manage and coordinate day-to-day test lab activities, ensuring testing priorities and resources are effectively organized.
- Partner with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and New Product Introduction teams to improve product performance, testability, reliability, and manufacturability.
- Coordinate testing with external laboratories and support customer-specific validation requirements.
- Contribute technical expertise during design reviews and provide recommendations based on testing and validation results.
- Help develop and continuously improve internal testing methodologies, processes, equipment, and validation capabilities.
- Maintain accurate technical documentation and clearly communicate testing results and recommendations to key stakeholders.
What You Bring
- A diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Design, or a related technical field.
- Approximately 5–7 years of relevant experience in mechanical testing, prototyping, product development, manufacturing, or a related engineering environment.
- Practical experience developing and executing test plans, validation protocols, test procedures, fixtures, and technical reports.
- Strong hands-on mechanical aptitude with experience building, modifying, troubleshooting, and evaluating prototypes and test systems.
- Proficiency with SolidWorks or comparable CAD software.
- Working knowledge of manufacturing processes, engineering drawings, GD&T;, and mechanical systems.
- Exposure to electrical, electromechanical, and/or pneumatic systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a methodical, data-driven approach to troubleshooting.
- Demonstrated ability to investigate failures,
identify root causes, and recommend practical corrective actions.
- Exceptional attention to detail and a robust commitment to accuracy in testing, analysis, and technical documentation.
- Patience and persistence when troubleshooting complex technical problems.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly explain technical findings and recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across engineering, manufacturing, quality, and product development teams.

Salary Range: $90,000–$110,000
