Nutrition Support Worker

Part time Term position (Maternity Leave) - Monday to Friday 7:00 am - 1:30 pm

November 02, 2026 to June 30, 2027

Gonzaga Middle School is an innovative, independent middle school for underserved students from low-income families that opened in September 2016. It uses the unique middle school educational framework and best practices from Jesuit Nativity model schools, adapting them to the community served in Winnipeg. The school offers small class sizes, enrichment opportunities, summer programming and a Graduate Support Program for Gonzaga Middle School graduates through secondary and post-secondary studies.

Opportunity:

Gonzaga Middle School is seeking a part-time Nutrition Support Worker (NSW) to begin in the first week of November, 2026. The successful candidate will provide nutritional leadership and will be responsible for all aspects of the school’s Nutrition Program for breakfast, lunch and snacks. In collaboration with the Student Support Team, the job functions include administrating, planning, preparing, directing, assessing, implementing, and evaluating the program to meet the nutritional and educational needs of children, as they relate to the Manitoba School Nutrition Guidelines.

Description:

The NSW will be an integral part of the school community and will:

- Provide an environment that supports healthy food habits while maintaining program integrity and student satisfaction. Develop cost-effective healthy recipes,



menus and sources of foods that maintain nutrition integrity and meet the Manitoba School Nutrition guidelines and regulations.
- Apply creativity to menus and presentation.
- Establish procedures to ensure that food is prepared and served in a sanitary and safe environment.
- Develop procedures to ensure the food production system provides safe nutritious food of high quality.
- Maintain standards for receiving, storing, and inventorying food and non-food supplies.

Liaise with other GMS Staff before changes to menus are introduced.

The successful candidate would have:

• Formal training, possibly a university degree in human nutritional sciences is desired.

- Education equivalency in the Culinary Arts/ Management, Cook, Nutrition or Food Beverage Management may be considered.
- Experience with school nutrition programs would be considered an asset.
- Knowledge of child nutrition and the Manitoba School Nutrition guidelines.
- Successful Completion of the Manitoba Health Certified Food Handler Training Program.
- Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.
- Ability to work with students with diverse backgrounds and abilities.




- Ability to manage multiple tasks with frequent interruptions, use time efficiently, demonstrate attention to detail, follow instructions and respond to management directions.
- Ability to communicate and interact positively with students, teachers, staff, parents, and community.
- Must be able to provide a clear criminal records search and pass a Manitoba child abuse registry check prior to the start of employment.
