ART WOODS OFFICE SUPPLIES

Furniture Specifier — CET (Configura)

Ottawa–Gatineau (National Capital Region) · Full time, Permanent · Hybrid

About us

Art Woods Office Supplies, part of the AW Group of Companies, has been outfitting workplaces across Ottawa and Gatineau for over 70 years. We supply office products, contract furniture, promotional products, and complete workplace solutions to commercial, institutional, and public-sector clients — including a significant book of federal government work. We are a certified Teknion dealership.

We are Canadian-owned, we serve our clients in both English and French, and our design team sits at the centre of every project we deliver.

The role

We’re hiring a Furniture Specifier who lives in CET (Configura Extension Technologies) and knows how to turn a floor plan into a buildable, orderable, installation-ready package.

This is a specification-first role, and the work splits roughly in two. Much of your week is office furniture specification — workstations and benching systems, private offices, height-adjustable desking, seating, storage, and ancillary and collaborative furniture across projects that range from a few workstations to full-floor fit-outs. The rest is architectural glass wall systems — demountable walls, glass fronts, and full-height partitions, where dimensional accuracy, site conditions, and trim details matter a great deal.

You’ll work alongside our designers, account managers, and project managers to make sure the creative vision behind each project is technically sound, code-compliant, and accurately documented from quote through installation.

What you’ll do

- Specify furniture in CET. Build accurate, fully attributed specifications and drawings for workstations, benching, private offices, seating, storage, and ancillary furniture using the Configura Commercial Interiors library and manufacturer extensions.
- Specify architectural walls.

Detail Teknion demountable and glass wall systems — coordinating dimensions, ceiling and floor conditions, door and glazing options, and finish selections against real site conditions.
- Move between the two. Most projects involve both, and you’ll be the person who makes the furniture and the wall package line up on the same plan.
- Produce technical documentation. Create precise floor plans, elevations, installation drawings, and finish schedules using CET, AutoCAD, and/or 2020.
- Select and document product. Choose furniture, finishes, and architectural products that meet client requirements and comply with industry standards and building codes.
- Validate before it ships. Review drawings, part numbers, and specifications for accuracy so that what’s ordered is what installs.
- Coordinate projects. Support order placement, project tracking, and documentation management; liaise with manufacturers on custom and non-standard requests.
- Collaborate and communicate. Translate design intent for the sales team, clients, and installers — and bring solutions, not just drawings, to the table.
- Work with clients. Meet with clients and design professionals to understand requirements, present options, and respond to feedback.

What you bring

Required

- 2+ years specifying office furniture in a dealership, manufacturer, or interior design environment – preferably with Teknion furniture
- Hands-on experience specifying in CET with the Configura Commercial Interiors library (minimum 1 year)
- Working knowledge of the Teknion product line

- Strong attention to detail — you catch the wrong part number before the client does
- Excellent written and verbal communication, and the organizational habits to manage several active projects at once

Strong assets

- Experience specifying architectural glass wall systems (Teknion Optos, Altos, or comparable demountable wall products)
- Familiarity with additional lines such as Global and Global Contract
- Experience with federal government projects, Standing Offers, or PSPC/SPAC requirements
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or 2020
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in Interior Design, Architecture, Architectural Technology, or a related field
- Bilingualism (English/French)

If you’re strong in CET but haven’t specified architectural walls yet, we’ll train you on that side — tell us about the specification work you have done.
