Through high-impact tutoring aligned with the Science of Reading, Hoot Reading focuses on improving students’ skills, engagement, and attitudes toward reading. The platform enables customized learning pathways for each child, ensuring accessible, individualized support.
Role Description The Online Literacy Teacher is a full-time, remote role focused on delivering 1:1, evidence-based reading instruction to students across North America. In this position, the teacher will assess individual learning needs, design and implement lesson plans aligned with the Science of Reading, and provide ongoing instructional support to improve literacy skills. Daily responsibilities include conducting virtual tutoring sessions, monitoring progress, adjusting teaching strategies based on assessment data,
and maintaining accurate records of student performance.
The teacher will also collaborate with Hoot Reading’s team to ensure instructional quality, communicate effectively with families or school partners, and use Hoot’s online platform and tools to create an engaging learning workplace.
Qualifications
- Strong Teaching and Education background, with experience in literacy instruction or elementary education.
- Demonstrated Lesson Planning skills, including the ability to create structured, individualized reading lessons aligned with the Science of Reading.
- Excellent Communication skills for working with students, families, and school partners in a virtual environment.
- Experience in Training or mentoring learners, with a focus on building confidence and positive attitudes toward reading.
- Relevant teaching certification or licensure, and classroom or online teaching experience with children.
- Comfort with educational technology and virtual teaching platforms, with reliable internet access for work from home.
- Ability to manage time effectively, work independently, and maintain a consistent full-time schedule.
- Knowledge of evidence-based reading practices and familiarity with student assessment tools is an asset.
