Under the general direction of the Operations Superintendent, the Operations Supervisor is responsible for managing the performance of bus operators. This includes monitoring and managing employee safety; the investigation of all complaints and commendations concerning each employee; reviewing all internal reports involving employees; administration of Transit's Attendance Management Program; providing annual performance reviews for each employee.
Responsibilities also include giving instruction and guidance to operators on non-solicited matters; participating in the grievance and arbitration process; first point of contact for WCB and MPI claims; participating and monitoring the return to work and Duty to Accommodate process and liaising with internal and external stakeholders on matters concerning employees or the Department.
As the Operations Supervisor, you will:
- Evaluate and manage staff through coaching, mentoring and training, performance and attendance management, and other related Supervisory functions to ensure operational goals are achieved.
- Monitor Operator accident/incidents to ensure quality and safety of service is delivered to the citizens of Winnipeg.
- Utilizing internal systems and administrative processes
- Support Return to Work and Accommodations/ Claims Management
Your education and qualifications include:
- Completion of one post-secondary certificate in Business Administration, Public Sector Management, and/or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Three years of progressive supervisory experience (in transit-related operations is an asset).
- Experience in administration and management, specifically including performance and attendance management for a high-volume workforce in a challenging environment.
- Experience in employee development including coaching, leading and providing appropriate staff training
- Ability to work effectively independently with minimal supervision.
- Organizational skills with the ability to prioritize a high volume of tasks, competing priorities and meet tight timelines.
- Ability to work professionally and tactfully with internal and external stakeholders including union members and the public.
- Verbal communication skills with the ability to understand and follow instructions and express ideas clearly and concisely.
- Interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain good working relationships with colleagues and staff at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to interpret and apply and explain collective agreements in day-to-day operations.
- Problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze information quickly and make sound decisions, in stressful circumstances.
- Proficiency with MS Office, including intermediate to advanced levels of spreadsheet and word application (Word and Excel).
- Information system experience i.e. intra op and PS tracking maintaining etc.
- Knowledge of Transit vehicles and equipment, route structures, computer systems, traffic operations, is an asset
- Thorough understanding of the WCB Act, Highway Traffic Act, Employment Standards Act, Human Rights Act.
- Ability to develop and apply practices, policy procedures and regulations in a public sector setting, with Transit Operations Department is an asset.

- Must possess and maintain a valid Province of Manitoba Class 2 Driver's License, with an air brake endorsement or the ability to obtain within 6 months.
- Special Constable in and for the Province of Manitoba with the ability to obtain withing the 6 months
- Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays, as required.
