We are currently seeking an experienced and dedicated Personal Support Worker (PSW) Instructor to join our academic team and support the delivery of our NACC Personal Support Worker program.
Position Summary The PSW Instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality classroom, laboratory and, where applicable, practicum instruction in accordance with the approved PSW program curriculum, applicable Ontario requirements and NACC program standards.
The successful candidate will provide engaging instruction through lectures, demonstrations, discussions, practical/laboratory activities, audio-visual materials and other appropriate adult-learning methods.
The Instructor will work closely with the Academic Coordinator to support student learning, assessment, attendance, academic progress and, where assigned, practicum/clinical learning.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver PSW theory, laboratory and practical instruction in accordance with the approved curriculum and course learning outcomes.
- Prepare and deliver lessons, presentations, demonstrations, learning activities and instructional materials.
- Teach PSW students using appropriate adult-learning and student-centred teaching methods.
- Demonstrate and assess practical PSW skills, where applicable.
- Prepare, administer, mark and document quizzes, tests, assignments, examinations and other student assessments.
- Provide students with timely and constructive feedback regarding academic and practical performance.
- Provide additional academic support, tutoring or remedial instruction to students who require assistance.
- Monitor and document student attendance, participation and academic progress.
- Supervise and/or support students during practicum or clinical placement activities,
where assigned and where permitted by the program requirements.
- Communicate with practicum/clinical placement sites and college administration as required.
- Maintain accurate student records, grades, attendance and assessment documentation in accordance with college policies and program requirements.
- Participate in curriculum review, course planning and the development or improvement of instructional materials as required.
- Maintain a professional, respectful and inclusive learning environment.
- Follow all applicable college policies, health and safety requirements, academic policies and applicable Ontario requirements governing career colleges and vocational programs.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development and other academic activities as required.
Qualifications The successful candidate must meet the instructor qualification requirements applicable to vocational programs under Ontario's career college legislation.
Candidates must have either
- At least 48 months of experience, acquired within the preceding 10 years, working in the PSW vocation or teaching a program that prepares students for employment in the vocation, or a combination of the two;
OR
- At least 24 months of relevant experience, acquired within the preceding 10 years, working in the vocation or teaching a program that prepares students for employment in the vocation, or a combination of the two, PLUS one of the following:
- A bachelor's degree from an eligible Canadian post-secondary institution or an equivalent degree from outside Canada;
- Graduation from an Ontario College of Applied Arts and Technology or equivalent institution outside Ontario;
- Graduation from a registered Ontario private career college or equivalent institution outside Ontario; or
- Another educational qualification recognized under applicable Ontario requirements.
Preferred Qualifications Preference will be given to candidates with:
- Current registration in good standing as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) in Ontario, where applicable to the subjects being taught;
- PSW experience in long-term care, community care, home care, retirement/assisted living, hospital or other relevant health-care settings;
- Previous experience teaching PSW students or other adult learners;
- Experience supervising students in clinical or practicum settings;
- Strong knowledge of PSW scope of practice, person-centred care, infection prevention and control, safety, mobility and transfers, personal care, dementia/cognitive impairment, mental health, palliative/end-of-life care and community support;
- Experience with NACC PSW curriculum or Ontario's Personal Support Worker Training Standard;
- Adult education, teaching or instructor-development training.

Additional Requirements Successful candidates may be required to provide documentation verifying their education, qualified credentials and relevant occupational/teaching experience for college and regulatory records.
