The Medically Complex Care (MCC) unit receives patients with sub acute medical goals for short term complex medical management. The MCC team is focused on helping patients achieve their medical goals, and supporting a return home or transfer to another facility that will meet their ongoing needs.

The inpatient unit provides care for adult patients of all ages with a wide range of medical diagnoses. Our delivery of care is patient-focused and provided in partnership with patients, families, and their supports.

- Registered with, and in good standing with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario
- Bachelor’s Degree in Physiotherapy or equivalent, from an accredited school
- Knowledge of geriatric physical medicine, normal and abnormal aging processes and the scope and practice of Physiotherapy
- Excellent clinical, interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
- Demonstrated ability to make sound clinical judgment and utilize a holistic approach emphasizing quality of life
- Demonstrated ability to work in an interdisciplinary team
- Ability to attend work regularly; demonstrated by an acceptable attendance record

This position is temporary until April 2028.

The Physiotherapist at St. Peter’s Hospital is accountable for providing Physiotherapy services designed to improve or maintain the mobility and physical functioning of older adults.

The Physiotherapy scope of practice includes: assessment, remediative and preventive management (using a broad range of treatment modalities) in the areas of physical mobility, comfort and function. Factors considered include the client's joint range, muscle strength, fine and gross motor skills, balance, cardiovascular/tolerance fitness, pain level, ability to follow instructions and equipment needs.

The Physiotherapist participates within a team setting in the development of assigned programs and attends admission, review and discharge conferences, and Program Team meetings including education, research and program development. The staff Physiotherapist is also responsible for the clinical supervision of assigned Rehabilitation Assistants and PT / RA students.

The Medically Complex

Program focuses on assisting the older adult to regain as much functional independence and quality of life as possible so that they can be discharged to live in an environment that supports the greatest amount of self- determination. There is significant focus on discharge planning. The Physiotherapist is accountable to the Clinical Manager.
