This role is ideal for those looking to teach for a short period of time, build relationships with students and really experience what it feels like to be a nurse educator at RDP.
Our Part-Time Instructors have a variety of start and end dates throughout the academic year.
While most courses will be offered at Red Deer Polytechnic main campus or online, instructors are also expected to travel to deliver courses at other locations as needed. These locations may include Camrose, Drumheller, Ponoka, Rocky Mountain House, Stettler, and Three Hills.

Position Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Associate Dean of Practical Nursing, the successful candidate will have the following key responsibilities:
- Teaching students in classroom, lab,
and/or clinical settings with flexibility for both face-to-face and online course delivery
- Creating a stimulating, effective, and learner-centered environment which includes preparing, reviewing and/or updating course material
- Marking, grading, and evaluation of student work
- Travel to rural sites for labs and clinical instruction
- Providing ongoing feedback, guidance, and assistance to students
- Actively contributing and participating in program planning, curriculum review, project work, and scholarly activity
- Participating in School and Polytechnic-wide initiatives and/or committees
- Upholding the Professional Responsibilities of Faculty at RDP which are described within the Faculty Performance Policy Demonstrating and promoting RDP organizational values and following RDP policies and practices.
Instructors uphold the professional responsibilities of faculty and demonstrate RDP organizational values by following related policies and practices. They are supported by the Centre for Teaching, Learning and Scholarship and are provided with a comprehensive onboarding experience to help ensure their success.
Required Qualifications
- Current registration as an LPN with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA) or a Registered Nurse with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA)
- Current Heart and Stroke Foundation Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider or Recertification Certificate, or willingness to obtain upon hire
- Respiratory Fit Testing or willingness to obtain upon hire
- Valid Driver’s License
- A satisfactory Criminal Record Check in accordance with the Polytechnic’s Criminal Record Check policy
- Current Immunizationas per RDP requirements
Preferred Qualifications
- RN with a BScN degree
- LPN diploma with a health care related degree
- LPN diploma with significant progress in a health care related degree
- Minimum 1 year of recent acute care experience, including knowledge of Canadian healthcare standards and practices. Experience within Alberta healthcare systems is considered an asset.
Benefits and Compensation Information Part-time Instructors:
- Receive an additional 14% of their gross salary in lieu of benefits and vacation pay.
- Part-time instructors are not eligible for comprehensive health and dental benefits packages.
- Eligible for individual professional development funding, additional free career development opportunities offered through the institution.

Commensurate with education and experience.
