ABOUT LAWSON TUTORING
Lawson Tutoring is a personalized tutoring company serving students and families throughout Metro Vancouver.
We believe that a great tutor is not necessarily the right tutor for every student. That is why we do things differently.
Instead of asking families to browse through a marketplace of tutor profiles, Lawson takes the time to understand each student’s academic needs, learning style, personality, goals, location, and schedule. We then carefully match each student with a tutor who we believe will be a strong fit.
The student comes first. The match comes second.
As Lawson grows, we are building a team of knowledgeable, dependable, encouraging tutors who care about helping students develop both academic skills and confidence.
THE ROLE
Lawson Tutoring is hiring independent contractor tutors to work with students across Metro Vancouver.
Tutors may work with students:
- In students’ homes
- Online
- At approved community, school, or tutoring locations
Assignments are offered based on your subjects, authorized grade levels, location, availability, experience, and fit with the individual student. You may accept or decline assignments based on your availability. There are no guaranteed minimum hours, and this is not a salaried or traditional part-time employment position.
Families are clients of Lawson Tutoring. Lawson manages the matching process, family onboarding, payments, policies, and administrative systems so that tutors can focus on providing excellent instruction.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
As a Lawson Tutor, you will provide personalized one-on-one academic support to students within your approved subjects and grade levels.
You will be expected to:
- Arrive on time and prepared for every session
- Adapt your teaching approach to the individual student
- Explain concepts clearly and patiently
- Identify areas of strength and areas requiring additional support
- Help students strengthen understanding rather than simply complete assignments
- Support homework, test preparation, projects, study skills, and curriculum mastery where appropriate
- Create or use appropriate practice activities and learning resources
- Assign appropriate homework or practice when beneficial
- Monitor student progress over time
- Maintain professional boundaries with students and families
- Follow Lawson’s safeguarding, privacy, communication, and professional-conduct standards
SESSION REPORTS After tutoring sessions, tutors are expected to maintain appropriate session documentation through Lawson’s systems.
Session reports may include
- Topics and concepts covered
- Student progress
- Areas of difficulty
- Tutor observations
- Skills demonstrated or requiring development
- Homework or practice assigned
- Resources used or recommended
- Assessments, quizzes, or tests where applicable
- Recommended next steps
These reports help Lawson, parents, students, and future tutors understand the student’s learning journey and maintain continuity between sessions.

SCHEDULING
Most tutoring demand occurs after school, during evenings, and on weekends.
Tutors provide Lawson with their current availability and service locations. Student assignments are then offered based on family needs and tutor fit.
Tutors are expected to keep their availability reasonably current and promptly notify Lawson if they are unable to attend a scheduled session.
Tutors should not privately arrange cancellations, discounts, refunds, payment changes, or other changes to Lawson’s service arrangements with families.
COMPENSATION
Starting compensation: $25 CAD per completed instructional hour, unless a different rate is agreed to in writing for a particular tutor or assignment.
Tutors work as independent contractors and are paid by Lawson Tutoring.
Families pay Lawson directly. Tutors do not collect tutoring fees or direct payments from Lawson families.

There are no guaranteed hours. Assignments depend on student demand, tutor availability, subject requirements, geography, and successful student-tutor matching.

THE KIND OF TUTOR WE WANT
You don’t need to teach every subject.
You don’t need to be the right tutor for every student.
We want you to be excellent for the students you’re matched with.
At Lawson, qualifications matter—but so does fit.
How you explain something matters.
How you communicate matters.
How you respond when a student is struggling matters.
And whether a student feels comfortable enough to ask you, “Can you explain that one more time?” matters.
If that sounds like the kind of tutor you want to be, we’d like to hear from you.
APPLICATION PROCESS
Selected applicants will move through Lawson’s tutor onboarding process, which may include:
Application → Initial Review → Interview → Qualification & Subject Review → Screening / CRC Verification → Contractor Agreement → Lawson Onboarding → Account Setup → Eligible for Student Matching
Completing onboarding does not guarantee a minimum number of assignments. Student placements depend on demand and appropriate student-tutor fit.
